Some had one, others didn't.
For those that didn't it is OK to dream about, to wish, that only if...
Sometimes...solutions
don't have problems.
I went down the mountainside
trying to hear if then I could,
the happy laugh the river's guarding,
the last echoes from my childhood.
A yearn, a pilgrimage to my past,
a forest, army of trees, scent of woods,
with crisscrossing paths going nowhere,
to reach Sangri-La...only by foot.
You couldn't see the flowing waters,
but like Ulysses, its Sirens murmur,
which were riding on the river's waves
enticing for a swim the truant young.
Eating berries, wild figs and apples
was then, a forbidden fun,
than see the summer go by the window
of the prison that they called school.
In the time glass has been too long
since that child smile could touch my soul;
where we bathed, screamed and fished
was the place where all laughs were born.
I have the problem of an empty space
left by the absence of happy thoughts,
which so many children spread around
like seeds of life for a tomorrow's crop.
I dipped my fingers in the warm waters
trying to feel again what i feel no more,
and then I heard the giggling laughter
which the river warded from the outside world.
My secret garden always will be there
in the very heart of a lost childhood,
holding a solution without a problem
and an empty space where to put my soul.

Dear Georg,
I read your poem. It is a great write. You express so well the feelings of many who cannot express them, but I hope that you are stronger than your poem. During WWII we suffered a lot, but in order not to suffer too much, I later wrote my book "Childhood Regained". Be assured that you have more time than you think, to do regain your childhood. Try to write about what makes you happy, as the Child is always in us. He will show you the path. At seventy-six I feel younger today than before. Emile
Oh Poor Baby! This beauty breaks my heart! I can so feel each pain filled word, relate and understand. But Precious, we waded through Hell and came out alive! We survived! HUGS! SC

most of my childhood was also filled with empty spaces ... what i did was to saturate them with knowledge, hope and motivation ... i then found the empty spaces existed no more ...
Forbidden to eat figs and berries? Man that would suck, hope you fill that void G-man!

A good write, Georg, I wish that I had anything to recall. I don't remember ever having fun moments even as a child. There was always someone to make every moment sad or hurt. I had to learn to laugh and have fun after I got older. It's never to late to have a happy childhood they told me when I was in my thirties. I'm probably more a kid now then I ever was then. good food for thoughts. Lady J
Oh my God this touches so deeply...but the imagery of nature brought me such beauty within!!

So sad Georg, and obviously something in your soul will always yearn for that lost childhood. I think everyone has a yearning for something lost in their lives. But I am also a firm believer that "what doesn't kill us, will only make us stronger".
Thank you for sharing Georg.
Hugs, Laura
Sad piece indeed. I can't help though to think that even the lost childhood will continue to shape us today and therefore never really goes away. Good or bad it's time well spent. Well Written - HB
Georg,
Poignant and deep, my friend. The down side is adults who have had a bad childhood cannot recapture it back. The soul is always searching for that elusive dream. I didn't have a bad childhood Georg. I did have alot of responsiblity because my Mama died so young and left 8 kids behind, me being the oldest. Outstanding poetry, my friend.
There is something very beautiful and wistful about the words
'the last echoes from my childhood'. I enjoyed the entire poem, but those words will stay with me forever~

An extremely sad piece, Georg. Although I had what I consider to be a wonderful childhood, I know far too many did not, and you've powerfully portrayed that here.
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
