As we become old, aging way over the life's expectancy, we should be able to convey our feelings without being labelled as morbid.
We should be able to say to our life long partner that...
I will give warmth to your wrinkled hands,
and kiss your eyes when they become very old;
remember with you forgotten times, our life,
and what we did with that little seed of love.
My shoulder will be always there so your head can,
when weakness assaults, find a firm support;
and a tender assurance to confront your fears
you will hear, always, in the tone of my voice.
I don't know how much time we two have,
together we have destroyed so many clocks,
by living longer that the world had wished,
when and where is only for God to know.
The only thing I wish, before my lights go out,
is to hear you, the only one that says adieu.
Wow you just filled my eyes with tears
as I read this such beautifully expressed
wish before my light go out
is to hear you, the only one that says adieu.
I thought that is exactly what I want my husband
To say to me!!
George this is the best poem I have read
Today this one melts the heart and occupy the soul
Love Peace and Joy many Hugssss to you always..Yolie
. . . stunned silence . . .
I loved this: "together we have destroyed so many clocks"
but the true weight and sentiments you saved for the last:
"The only thing I wish, before my lights go out,
is to hear you, the only one that says adieu."
As it should be.

Beautiful. Any woman would be fortunate to age gracefully with you by her side, getting her through the "uglies." One of your best (and I've saved everything you've penned). Well done.
As we age, becoming more and more vulnerable, Love will take its final arrow through the heart of that inevitable journey toward departure...sad but true...
Rest now, for all that love gathered over the years,
for two to become one, in final times,
one will be waving as the other pines...
"The Only Thing I Wish"...writes in quenching thirst,
for the you I chose...that I go first!
A Beautiful write!
Filled with heartfelt empathy, and yet, some fear of loneliness
if left behind...
My Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Tony just celebrated their 73rd Wedding Anniversary!
They are both in their mid 90's!
Talking with her recently, she said,
“I think God Forgot us...”
Bless their hearts!
Enjoyed~
Love and Peace~

Your words echo my feelings perfectly as my love has lasted over 53 years in the next month. We still chuckle over time worn memories of youth. Thank you Mastter Poet for caring and sharing this masterpiece., Mikii>

Love really does make the world go round, no matter our age.
Truly heartfelt, and truly good, Georg, and we could all learn from your poetic pen.

This is what we wished. And now I cry.
