After the noise fade away and the fireworks smoke of the New Year cleared off, we got another kind of a long long new year ahead, where promises will be made and never honored...
My friends, I am your reality; why you keep on ignoring me and lend your ears to the same lies election after election is beyond me...wake up!!!
New years is not at all new, just
with new old clothes a old one,
but taking new miseries with him
over another of the calendar’s walls
which will make you to cry.
Thousand fireworks rumbled, with
their uproarious thundering laugh,
telling of an scared world wishing
to chase their demons with noise,
only disturbing the peace of the sky.
Prosperity has been converted, in a
four-letter offensive word at that,
wishing a prosperous years to many
a homeless seems a little grotesque,
as it is to a forgotten war veteran.
My name is Reality, you should know
it by now, avoiding me has you tried,
having dreamt yesterday the impossible
dreams of an utopian peaceful tomorrow
this new year is, than the last, not unlike.
So, dear you all, I will not be wishing
for a happy new year, not this time,
Dreams will be your partner for a dance,
but you are going home with Reality, to
the shadows, after switching off the lights.
Same same but different, like fresh bullets to a well worn gun. Soon the gun will stop working and reality will come a knockin'. Until then the fireworks will give their demons pause.

Many of us do the reality checks and it is a fine poem Georg,yet the ones who really need to get the message never read our poems and that's their loss,but they only read what pumps their ego,and therefore never learn the truth.
...what you have penned is sadly true...but in ourselves...holding on to dreams...is what keeps the blood flowing...alive...though we may be losing more and more sleep in these times...to dream.

There you Karla, thats a good one, then we get to vote after they've completed the test. Thank you Georg for sharing your write. Too bad the truth doesn't come out in the beginning.
I think we all have to give our self a reality check occasionally. However, we must continue to dream. Dreaming of better tomorrows, reaching our goals, striving to be the best we can be...to live happy, healthy, and realistically we need a healthy mix of both, but there's a fine line between dreamer and realist that we must keep in check. We can't ignore the truth by living in a bubble. Well done a profound write my friend!

I'd love to see any one who wants to run for office go on the new reality show here in the states, "The Moment of Truth." Contestants are strapped to a lie detector before the show, asked 50 questions; then, during the show, they are asked between 20-25 random questions from those already asked. They have to face their family, their boss...for every one answered correctly, they earn money. Sad, isn't it, when we can't trust anyone? In my version, those who lie are given more jail time!!!! Excellent reality check--well done, Georg.
Georg it is sad that the reality of Christmas Peace followed by the hopes of New Year's wishes are crashed to the ground from lofty heights when the reality of what you speak arrives. However we can still strive to make our own dreams and vows come true. Excellant work in this one buddy.
Georg, We all need to have reality checks, but I prefer to know my reality and live in peace and joy and spread that positivity with the hopes that it will be contagious and others will adopt a positive spin to their lives and spread it to others, you know like a good domino effect...But I have always had the Pollyanna attitude, so there you go..

Instead of New Year Resolutions, your idea of New Year Reality Checks sounds like a wonderful idea. But I fear many would not like what they find. I think far too many live in an unreal world these days, an unreal world of only 'Me.'
