How many promises how many times...and we got our wishes how fast we forget to thank Him.
Him, that time and time again grant our wishes when our heart was desperate, Him that forgave our forgetfulness time and again every time.
The poem below is for those that keep forgetting Him, a kind of soft call to make an U turn, that is not forbidden.
Lord, I was running but no looking
when entering uninvited in Your House,
searching refuge through its open doors
from a furious storming rain,
but Lord, I didn’t disturb anybody,
it was empty to my surprise.
All the candles were unlighted
letting shadows to engulf the altar,
Your son in the cross was waiting
to redeem a soul, for anyone
that remembered He was still there
but the church was empty and so was I.
The rows of benches were so many,
A silent wooden army of rank and file,
I wondered if the echoes where still there
where so many people one day sat,
and the emptiness made me think my Lord,
why they went away? Are they coming back?
I will confess that I felt ashamed when
hurrying by Your empty church I go by,
after all, the doors are inviting open
but I needed a storm to pushed me inside,
and if everybody my Lord, is like me…
Your empty church is no surprise.
It seems we all been there at one time or another
All promise if only their prayesr are anwered
some are and they pews remain empty
Peace be with you Brother
Fantastic Poem Georg!
These are the poetic words of wisdom & you speak them beautifully
I am shamed too, as I am guilty to loose sight of my appreciations, and then lessons are learned over again

This is one beautiful poem with so much truth in every line. I can't begin to list the times the Lord was with me, even when I didn't deserve his grace.

This scene I myself have played. We sometimes forget we need his sheltering EVERY day!
A writing of reflection to our needs
Much appreciation
for these stanzas
with their architectural lines
of stumbling faith
and hoped-for redemption
persistently gleaming
like cathedral spires
in a downpour of doubt.
Georg - It does seem that we only think of Him when we're in trouble and are desperate. Especially liked:

Spot On, Brother! God is there for refuge. God is there in a time of need. We want. We want. We have forgotten to be like Jesus. We have forgotten to give. We try to ignore and avoid that dirty Nam veteran who is sleeping (call the police, someone) right outside the church's doors. God is so merciful. If I was God, seeing what I am seeing in our world, we would have the Mother of all Floods right now today.
An Arab proverb, All sunshine a desert makes, that refers especially to the soul, you are right, most only look for him in a storm, or if the want something. Beautiful write Georg! Jasmin Horst

We need to remember even on sunny days we can get burned.
Nice reminder.
