Man said, "I am lost" and yet he will not ask directions... just cry in self pity repeating his life's mantra, "I am lost".

Poem Artwork

Man crawls around the world
with the shame of have been
reflected in old misty mirrors,
excruciating pain of not to be
on a long life with many errors
and a hole on the ground for him.

A candle burning at two ends,
Shadows…its light will give?
Or darkness will show contempt
by not letting it disturb its being
denying for that light to have
a shadow, a body without skin.

Skeletal today with no memories
of that pain of yesterday scream
from the dungeons of the soul
that never knew to have been free,
stones rung only to descent there
because no one ascend from it.

Which light is from black flames?
“Shadows” you will shout to me,
“no blinding point of bright light,
a bouquet of darkness, you see?”
then, a candle burning at two ends
represent what your life has been.

Most intriguing. Man seeks out his own destiny, but where does he go? ...........M

there would be no darkness without light to dim & luminate shadows veils...Ahhhh but then there would be no light without darkness' shroud to luminate & dim the lights reflective glow

Life is a wonderful blessing no matter how dark the veil for it is in the darkest hour we sometimes see the light of all importance
Wonderful Poetry Georg....and very inspirational
and when the candle's wick reaches the center perhaps it is then the two merge into one flame?

I have always loved the analogy of a candle burning at both ends.
Probably shouldn't admit it, but I pretty much live my life that way.
Burn too much midnight oil, for sure. Or should I say candle wax?
Thank you for sharing this wise and thought-provoking piece. I especially admire "reflected in old misty mirrors" and "bouquet of
darkness." Peace! Phyllis

So reflective that it makes us all stop and ponder our own candles and the glow that they may give off or snuff out to leave us and ours in darkness...weighty stuff here Georg

A candle burning at two ends...the way many of us feel! Yet...I believe there is an absence of shadows when there is that much light, only obstacles cause the shadows in our lives.

This poem has a powerful message about life! This is filled with wisdom! My favorite part of the poem is when you wrote, "Man crawls around the world with the shame of have been reflected in old misty mirrors. This is true, as so many times we can get lost in our lives. We try to find our way, but the "mirror", can be cloudy or misty. To me, the mirror is our own eyes, or it can be our heart. Stop into my den sometime. I would love to hear how you feel about my work.

Starkly antithetical to the wisdom
and good sense that we are supposed
to use in our lives

Georg - A dark poem, profound, of the human situation " a candle burning at two ends." Especially liked the lines:

excruciating pain of not to be
on a long life with many errors
and a hole on the ground for him.

and

“no blinding point of bright light,
a bouquet of darkness, you see?”
then, a candle burning at two ends
represent what your life has been. - David

(P.S.,I appreciate the comment you left on my Eulogy poem.I really haven't found that special woman yet.I just like to show and express my creativity.Yes I do smile a lot. That's basically who I am.I like to share my smile to the world. Some New Yorkers are tough and cold-hearted which is how they are,but not all New Yorkers are like that)

This is definetely from the dark side, shadow or not, your candle shines a great everlasting light, and is even burning at both ends longer than most, no comment, Anyway while you're in that mood, you should get a hold of Keith, he appreciates the dark, but you might scare the hell out of him. I would advice, you stay away from that coors stuff, it can be mind altering, you might start speaking in tongues that few understand, but all levity aside, don't worry about darkness, they'll be giving you a candle up there, to light your way, as you have for so many down here. Blessings Friend!
