How many Soldiers, how many Sailors, how many out there lost forever the first steps of their child because they weren't there to get that big smile and stretched arms to catch their fall?
But there where also other children that were doing their first steps and that never had those supportive standby hands.
From the first wobbling step they do,
the world is a strange place open to explore,
guided by curious eyes that to any fear,
they had yet to taken, their first look,
knowing without knowing that a pair of hands
will be there to stop the fall,
but some of them will learn that,
with the first wobble
the inevitable crash soon will follow
because no pair of supporting
loving hands been there would,
just an empty place of absence
which they were born,
like a snail with its fragile house.
For the toddlers we are all giants
with our head up there, in the clouds,
so, they don’t look up too often
more exiting things are on their world
like a prancing little puppy
or a week old kitten that cannot run,
the ant carrying a green piece of leaf
or a dry leaf rustling on the floor,
but knowing without knowing
that a pair of hands will be there to hold,
while others toddlers will be making
their first step into the unknown
where the only hands they could expect
are that of cruelty…not of love.
Steps of little children, vacillating, wobbling,
they didn’t ask to be put on the road,
but expect your hands to be there to catch
the rosy bundle as they coming to fall,
giving you delight of having been the first
to see a thousand miles journey’s go,
a little head turning to see if you still there
wobbling small legs that will be tired soon;
but remember, when you see another toddler,
that there are places without rainbows,
where children can’t remember loving hands
ever stopping their painful many falls,
although first steps are all the same,
not everyone was done out of love.
Georg, you're reading too muchy into these little guys. I think
all children were born of love. They don't know disappointment till they get older, till their environment becomes hurtful. Wonderful poem.
Also, thanks for commenting on mine. On Health Reform, rather than
have those die who don't have insurance, I think the bill will never
be passed with an option for public to decide which way they want their toast buttered?
SO TRUE AND THANKS FOR SUCH A 'WELL DONE' REMINDER. WITH SOFT PHRASES YOU'VE GIVEN A GENTLE 'NUDGE' TO TURN HEADS IN ANOTHER DIRECTION. GOD BLESS. JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Steps of little children, vacillating, wobbling,
they didn’t ask to be put on the road,
truly a moving and heart-felt write, Georg. Such beautiful sentiments and expressions within your words. I never knew a daddy and my mum was always preoccupied, bless her. As soon as I could toddle, I escaped and was lucky to be brought back alive, having been found wandering down the central white lines in the road outside our farmhouse! If this happened today I dread to think... And then there's the despicable predators... This jangles many nerves, and is deeply touching. Thank you. Kate xx
Another wonderful write Georg, I enjoyed as always
I had another family BBQ last Sunday, this write reminded me of my grandchildren running and falling
Fortunately for them there were many hands out to catch them
Sad that all children don't have the joy of two loving parents
Have a good day Georg

The closing lines are majestic... "First Steps of little Children" is a scroll written with diamond words. A powerful message with a mwllifluous voice.
Much gratitude to the author of "First Steps of little Children" for posting this poetic light.
Life can be very cruel, huh? So many families divided. So many children never to know their fathers and mothers, this hurts to the core. So many children left to flounder. Such insight to all the silent cries.....
They may tumble without the loving, outstretched arms; yet, there is much resilience in a child, and mostly they survive. But, woe to them that intentionally do not hold out a hand. There is much sadness in your poem Georg, yet you grew to such a strong and loving man...because of...or in spite of???
Blessings and Love, my friend - Micke
Powerfully penned, Georg, but then again, there are those who were loved - as I was - who volunteer to be soldiers and sailors, airmen and Marines - greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends. =] Well done.
...hard to read the end of this as tears blurr...love should be there every 'step' of the way...your poem is most heartfelt and is composed from a man that knows love....and has learned it from within. this is a keeper
So, so, so sad for many a little tike born into a world where many will never even see a pair of shoes. Thanks for this peom Georg. Makes me feel grateful for what I have now. J'nia
my heart also grieves for all those children who do not know the sheilding arms of love & those tenders of protection so strong....Wonderful Poem Georg

Georg,
I feel for those precious toddlers who DON'T have those loving hands to protect their falls, to protect them from harm. They learn to be tough, depend on no one but themselves. Some build a wall around their heart no one can penetrate. So sad for these babies who will grow into adults who can't accept love because they've never known it. Excellent write, Georg.
Georg, Very heart warming and full of wonder. I can't wait till my grandson, Kason, takes his first steps. It's going to be so exciting. Thank you for your wonderfully big warm heart You are a very special man.
Much peace, love, andlight,
Love is so important in every little step of life, without it, why live? only hope of maybe someday, but fallen and crippled how, who, and why, love again. You may run soon my friend, where loving hands will hold you always, where love is in abundance, you waited so long.

So very sad, and yet another great sacrifice that so many valiant soldiers make that is rarely mentioned. You pen it well.
