We all have our idea of what heaven must be like; here is mine.

THOSE HILLS

Someday I’ll have no commitments,

No mortgage, job or bills.

I’ll saddle my horse, pack my mules,

And head out for those hills.

It’s there I’ll spend eternity,

In Mother Nature’s breast.

I’ll pass my days on mountain trails,

Exploring every crest.

My home will be the shelter

Of a thousand majestic pines.

Like silent patron sentinels,

They shield me rain or shine.

I’ll listen to the whispering trees,

Sing softly in the wind.

And watch the clouds float gently by,

And wonder where they’ve been.

No fences here to bind me,

No walls to hem me in.

No freeways, roads or street signs,

To tell me where I’ve been.

A cool clear stream to quench me,

A golden sunrise breaks.

A sunset grand finale,

Beyond an alpine lake.

I’ll fish until too tired

On those soft warm summer days.

Then rest in grassy meadows,

As I watch my horses graze.

A campfire in the evening,

To heat my coffee by.

And all the stars in heaven,

To gently weight my eye.

Someday I’ll leave behind me,

My burdens, traps and ills

It’s then I’ll saddle for my journey,

Up there in those hills.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
