My star nurse a few years ago, the one who pulled me out of the abyss when I could not see a future for myself, (the one "Prozac" was written for) once told me I remind her of Winnie the Pooh. "OK, I'm small and cuddly but am I also a bear of little brain?" I said. "No she replied, if you read the stories again you'll find Pooh has life sussed. He knows what is important.
Pooh Sticks is a game the Toy Bear and Christopher Robin played in one of the books.

Pooh Sticks

Poem Artwork

A child races twig boats on the river,
carefully pushing them out from the bank,
so that they catch the current.

A young man spies on the make believe,
envious of imagination that transports
a child on journeys of fantasy

A rich man tries to capture the dream
with a camera, to make it an object, trap
the dream within an adults prison

An old man sits by the river, mocks
the youth who is now envying what he
so carelessly threw away.

The old man laughs at the fool
trying with a camera to capture
the shadows of dreams

He knows dreams stay when
we leave. They are always there;
it takes a lifetime to reclaim them.

'Pooh Sticks' drift on the streams of our imagination and glisten in the sunshine of our dreams!

A wonderful, timely, reminder to remember where we put our Pooh Sticks before they get swept up in the organic rubbish piles of our lives!

Thanks Ian - Really enjoyed this!

Poignant write and I think you're right, I have reclaimed some.
I'm a big fan of pooh and piglet...one of the best books i've ever read was The tao of Pooh and the te of Piglet by Benjamin Hoff...it was at a time in my life when it was exactly what I needed to read.
Wonderful write!

Ian, Pooh Sticks is something all us adults should play once in a while, that way we will be forced to remember what innocence was like before we let the weight of the world bear down on us.
Good write...hold those dreams close Ian. Lisa

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
