The euphoria found in simple pleasures

Poem Artwork

Life's simple pleasure...a fully-ripened, juice-filled, ruby-red Delicious apple.  Yum!  Just the thought, leads you from mouth-watering anticipation, to eye-pleasing contours in smooth, shining skin, to the first immaculate crunch and lip-smacking bite!  Was Eve onto something?  Life's unheralded treasure?  Only The LORD, Himself, can say which apple will produce a dozen pies - or an entire orchard - from its scattered seeds!  Never satisfied to "just enjoy" something, I first appreciate what went into it, and then, what I get out of it.  Apples are never quite so appealing, as the times when you must climb-up yourself, to detach it from the bower.  Breathing on it, to rub it clean, you finally sit down - with your back against the tree  - and consume it!  Apples never leave you empty-handed; the real treasure is inside...you can take what is left to you; the core,  to assure,  you can do this again someday!   enjoy...

`Fall
                    ` Apples

Soaked like a rag doll
Basket on my back,
Scaling rung-to-rung
Hungry lips, a-smack!
Ignoring the autumn shower
Carefully moving tree-to-tree,
Seeking those ripe apples
Whose skins peek back at me!
The fragrant breath of the orchard
From freshly-watered curling leaves
'Neath the sparkling verdant bower

Why, it's exciting picking these!
All my senses are fully embraced
As I reel from the feel of my bunch;
My back is aching a little now...
From carrying my soon-to-be lunch!
Oh, how I love those magnificent spices
I will find in the grandiose slices
Of my fabulous, Fall apples.
