“What are the voices of birds, but words,
Our words, only so much more sweet.”
Robert Browning
I often drive my poor wife crazy
Believing that the birds talk to me
It was a little after dawn the other day
When I heard this one calling from a tree
“Hello, Hello! You There, You There! See Me! See Me!”
So I jumped out of bed and I raced to the window
“Sweetie, Get Up and Listen To This Bird Talking!”
“Oh, no. Not again. Please! Just leave me alone…”
I very quickly got dressed, and I rushed out the back door
And soon, I was engaged in a conversation with a blue bird
To some people like my spouse, birds seem to sing gibberish
But for some reason, in their many songs, I always hear words
“Hello! Hello! My Early Morning Visitor! What Is It That You Want?”
And now, there was utter silence as my tiny feathered visitor looked down
But suddenly, he seemed to reply to my inquiry, as he started singing again
“Feed Me! Feed Me!” so I happily tossed some thistle seeds on the ground
Now, he eagerly flew down from the tree branch and ate his nourishing meal
While I wondered why my spouse and many others could not ‘speak bird’
After he dined, he took to wing, and as he flew off and away, he sang again
And echoing in the wind were his words, “Thank You! Thank You!” I heard
This tiny feathered early morning conversationalist was a marvelous Indigo Bunting
Probably on a needed break from his yearly autumn journey back down to Brazil
As I headed back inside I soon heard my spouse badgering me from the bedroom
“You are truly one loco gringo! Talking to the pejaros at dawn! What a ridiculo thrill!”
“What? I can’t seem to understand you, Sweetie;
Is that Spanish or English you’re speaking??!!”

Think I'll go talk to my Mockingbird. He speaks all kinds of bird talk. Why is he always mocking me?

Much peace, love and light,

We must merely listen and as I would say for you, you
are quite tuned into nature. You recognize her harking
to you and come to the call. They know your yard is
their sanctuary and they know you understand them
completely. So they speaking their morning songs to
you and their adieu's and thanks. They know "su casa
es mi casa" :)
Wonderful story of your early morning Mr. Ed

and Ed I agree with you they do say "feed me"
as my back yard sanctuary guests always let me know
when the feeders pale, and too I love how they all chime
in when I am filling the feeders :) & then their happy songs
