Missing my Dad...

Poem Artwork

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons [and daughters] of God.  For you have not received the spirit of bondage again - unto fear - you have received the Spirit of adoption, by Whom, we cry ABBA Father! [Daddy!/ Papa!].  The Spirit, Himself, bears witness with our spirit, that we are The Children of God...
                                                                                           Romans 8:14-16

The Family Secret

The Light
                was Given
                                    to Dispel the Darkness.
The Family
                was Created
                                    to Embody Unity
                                                                   and the Light.

But alas!
                 In this Era
                                    of Humanism [SELF-love]
The Family
                  is being Wrenched
                                      from its Core
And sacrificed by Infidels
                                     ... for SELF-gain.

But I?
I will cling!
Unto the very last.............................................glimmer
                                      of The Light.

Where exists, my earthly refuge;
The haven, in which, I grow?
The tranquil harbor, which sustains me
In tides...that freely flow.

Where lies, my roots and branches
Which bind me, physically, to the earth?
Those which sprang, from Divine Intervention:
Conception of my birth.
Wherein dwells, godly flesh-and-bone,
Which enfold, from birth to death?
Smooth-as-silk...to wrinkled-and-sere
Wise counsel on their breath.
Where inhabits, the cornerstones;
Ragged earmarks of progress and success?
Turbulent...to harmonious, oft wrought
In trepidation and duress.
Where derives, my emotional strengths;
Values, preserved from youth?
Lessons in love, laughter, and joy --
Sorrow, compassion, and truth.
Where burns, the flame of eternal love
Of which, I am consumed?
A flame that thrives -- and never dies!
'Though to the world, I'm doomed.
Where breathes, the promise of forebearance
When I am driven to extremes?
And the sacred gift of forgiveness
Which repeatedly, sets me free!
Where abides this community spirit;
This intrastructure of peace and harmony?
Why, surely you've discovered my secret --
'Tis my Father's House...
Entrenched in humanity!

ABBA my Father,

It is with an unspeakable love,
That Heavenward, I now cast my gaze:

A beautiful song ushers up in me --
Glorious, and of most-intimate praise;

With ev'ry breath I shall ever breathe
Magnify, Thy Pure & Lovely Name!

With ev'ry beat of this child's heart
Rekindle...Your eternal flame!

But today, LORD...amidst Your Own People
If I may have my say:

I am wishing You - The LORD my GOD,
The happiest...of FATHER'S Days!

** My Dad loved this one...he was a poet, too, and I miss him sorely.  He gave me my Godly roots, and he gave me the best hugs...at the end of his life.

I wish all Fathers a truly Blessed Father's Day.   Children, enjoy them...too soon, like the wind, they are gone .

My father passed away before I was old enough to embrace his love. But I had a step-father who showed me his affection and concern in a hundred different ways. It is with the fondest of memories that I recall sitting on the floor in front of his chair in the evening as he read a children's story book to me. We were members of a very special club, the 42-7 Club. I loved it. Is it a coincidence that I was 7 and he was 42? Too soon was this man gone from my life by the fracturing instrument of divorce, but ever is he in my heart as the dearest man I have ever known. He was a miracle from heaven.

Thank God I had the privilege to raise two sons and two daughters and was given the opportunity to share with them what I yearned for but never received save the few years with my wonderful step-father.

And I pass on this lesson in my AD posted short-short story You and Me. I invite all writers and readers to visit my den and enjoy that brief interlude of how one man's loving concern saved a young boy's life and future. That boy was me.

As always, Rhonda, your poetry stirs and warms my heart. Bless you.

Richard

Your poetry shines like the stars in the sky that will last till the end of time and then be glorified in eternity with the God you love with the sincerity of a young child telling his mother how much he loves her. Your poetry has reached new heights that places you with the best poets around. Your father would have been quite proud of you and I'm sure he is smiling down on you from heaven.

Wow! Rhonda 'tis deep, this poem of yours. What sentiment, what narrative, how ... poetic you are.

You are a bless, dear friend Rhonda, to many and especially to me. Your dad must have been a great influence in your life, as is mine. God bless you dearly. Keep your dad's memories aglow.
