I have to admit, that one of the proudest moments of my life as an American, was when Iraq and Afghanistan was there to represent their country. For the first time, they are allowed to join the rest of the world..I hope they win Gold for each event they try.

Ah, Ron... this is just what I needed just now... watched the opening ceremonies last night and I'm READY for the games! I love the Olympics and when James Earl Jones' voice quietly boomed that 'the games have come home' I burst into tears. Seeing Korea come in together, not north/south, seeing Iraq and Iran, then the Arab country, followed by our own U.S. delegation, knowing they'd be standing together in the huge oval center, I just parked the kleenex at arm's length and gave myself to it entirely.
Oh, that the world at large could follow the example of the Olympians. Your piece is magnificent, with the right end and the right kind of encouragement. I do thank you for posting this. I needed it, and I welcome its intent. Good for you! katy xox.
