Forgive me for this probably unheard of response but I read "Big Easy" before reading this... you collapsed me with that, now you've done me in, entirely. I kid you not... I am reeling, trying to express my gut and failing miserably. This one had me crying... 'passing the spot' and 'playing for free'... but the 'old girl rising again' clinched it. The dialect is consistent and I don't think this magic poem could have been done as effectively without it. To honor her "when" rather than mourn her "now" is simply heart-wrenching... but it's exactly what makes your tributes perfect to read. I didn't just read, though, I experienced! Sigh... katy xox

Inspiring hope is what you have done, Ron. Your use of language brings it all home and reminds us of from what she came, clawing and scratching from nothing to become the Queen of the Blues. She was birthed from sorrow and oppression, I doubt that a hurricane can keep her down. This is a wonderful write, I truly appreciate the spirit you have created.
