My father, 85, is slowly coming out of two months of critical care. Drove 2800 miles to see him last weekend. He could only squeeze my hand, work his eyebrows, smile, and shake his head to communicate.
No, it is too expensive and difficult for me to fly with my wheelchair and other equipment, and Yes, I drove every mile except when towed (inside my van) to replace a failed alternator in Oklahoma.
Also attended my brother's wedding in the beautiful Rotunda of the State Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin, took a sunset cruise on Lake Mendota, and saw Central Wisconsin fall color that I thought I never would see again.

rather than telling, and it puts us there beside your father's
bed. It is terrible to see what he is going through -- that it
is so hard to hang on --, but with a son like you, he has to
feel like the luckiest man in the world. You have really,
truly, completely, put yourself t h e r e. He k n o w s.
