My window on the world,

Poem Artwork

Window World

My window on the world,
is growing larger,
with every passing day.

I can fly with the eagles,
swim with the fishes,
in my very own way.

From the highest of mountaintops,
to the deepest of seas,
to even the edge of the universe,
in comfort and in ease.

My search never ends,
for I am not pleased,
to stop my searching,
with an understanding of bees.

For the world is my oyster,
a cornucopia cup.
I'll drink to your world,
for tonight we sup.

With an insatiable appetite,
for what we can learn.
With the click of a mouse,
and a deep inner yearn.

We can never learn too much,
from the stars in the sky,
we can never learn too much,
where the microbes ply.

This is my world,
and my window is big.
It will always get larger,
omnivorous as a pig.

But I am not greedy,
for riches or fame.
I'm hungry for knowledge,
my only game.

So seek all ye seekers,
a world of your own.
The window's wide open,
right from your home.

As has been said, we can easily become slaves to this window, but we'll never be bored. There's an amazing world out there ...and some of it's pretty darned special!

RON...

Shades of Emily Dickinson:

"There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!"

Your version is an 'up-to-date' High-Tech one, but quite comparable !
Both are 'Classic' ... and 'true to the bone' ...

Peace ... Tom.

I enjoy those forays into knowledge the computer affords me although I do have to forage through a lot of information and some misinformation...most of the answers are there.

I think that Window has always been open, even long before the Internet, and all we need is that insatiable quest for knowledge that you speak of.

Nice write, Ron. As much as I use and enjoy the internet, however, I still enjoy making my discoveries and gaining knowledge first hand. I'd rather view the scenes from the peak of Mount Washington with my two feet planted there.

Computers and the internet have become so pervasive that we sometimes forget how they have changed the scale and scope of personal learning. I remember in the early nineties I bought my first one and although it has at times got me in trouble and caused unintended consequences, overall I am better for having used a computer. I find the internet can be a writing aid with immediate results from research, but it has its traps. Porn, gaming and most social sites can be gateways to personal corruption and addiction. At least my personal experience has led me to that conclusion. All these things can be controlled and conquered. I liked the rhythm of your piece Ronald. Well done and thoughtful. Bob

Great rhythm and rhyme, and you capture most of our thoughts about what a great tool the computer really is and how we depend upon it daily in so many ways. I must confess that it took me a long time to give in to the idea of getting a computer. But once I did, it took only a few seconds to realize that I had the world at my fingertips. I use it every day. Sometimes I like to google someplace I've been--such as Beartooth Scenic Byway that winds through the mountains, beginning in Yellowstone, heading northeast into Montana--then click on "images" and view all the pictures. That way I can visit it all over again. Yes, I do that a lot, and it provides endless hours of entertainment for me. Sorry I went on and on, but that's the way your pieces affect me, Ron: They always get me to thinking. Thanks for a job well done.

A great subject for a poem. Most take this window for granted. Lately there has been a move toward holding the internet for ransom. This knowledge should be made freely available to all, as in the books from a public library. Free the internet! M.True

Windows like opportunity doors, open and close. The views change with our desires and expectations. May your windows always grow larger. One of my favorite movies is "The Miracle of Belle Island" it relates to just this kind of window. Wonderful poem.

Stay well and keep writing

As I don't have the money to travel, I am able to as well through my computer. I can learn something new every day. I enjoy your poem and your window as it is my window as well!

Love ya!

You are so right Ron, we all have our own window and no matter how big or small, we chose to let in as much light as we desire. It is much easier to see from home than it is to be surrounded by the chaos outside.

I love the rhythm and the images this poem possesses!
Yes aren't we all so blessed to have knowledge and adventure at our fingertips, but we need human contact in order to be balanced!
Nicely done!
Peace love and light
