Hello Computer

I have signed up for NoMoRobo.com and used my Internet phone provider for my desktop phone to block call numbers that are suspicious, but the number of calls getting through on many hijacked new numbers every day keeps increasing. I have resorted to letting it ring six times and if I can't identify the number or the individual calling, don't answer and let my answering machine message throw them off. I ask in the message for the caller to "call back." That way any real caller, does. Computers and scam callers all hang up or give me their spiel on my message that I can easily erase. But I really hate it when I am trying to solve a problem and the computerized system hangs up on me rather than allowing me to get where I need to be with a real person.

Hello Computer

Hello, computer, you sound just fine.

A little more metallic than yesterday,

but I know that you are all mine.

You don't have that damn foreign accent,

with all that noise, talking from behind.

Making it so hard to place where you are from,

and exactly what's on your mind.

You seem so polite with all your kind requests.

Asking me to push numbers 1 to 3 or more,

all at my own bequest so I won't get sore.

I know that I will get to speak,

to a real person someday.

But as I punch my way through all,

the numbers it's not looking that way.

I got an hour or so to kill so I will do as you request,

"Press nine to go back to the main menu,"

and keep giving you my very, very best.

But computer, if you don't behave and help me real soon,

I may smash this phone against the wall.

Won't be able to call you anymore at all.

And won't even be able answer when you call!

Did I call you? Or did you call me?

I guess I'll have to hang up and call back,

in an hour, or two or three to see.

I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW MANY OF THOSE TERRIBLE CALLS I GET PER DAY...BUT I CAN'T EVEN CONSIDER GETTING AN ADVANCED TECH SYSTEM TO HELP. I PROBABLY WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO OPERATE IT AND IT WOULD TOTALLY OVERWHELM ME...MORE THAN THE CALLS. SO I'LL JUST KEEP HANGING UP OR DISMISSING THE CALL.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU MY FRIEND! MAY THE JOY OF THE SEASON FILL YOUR HEART WITH PEACE AND CARRY YOU SAFELY INTO THE NEW YEAR. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS.

You made me smile. I do so hate talking to computers when I make the call, but when they call me, it's even worse. Nice rhythm, good work.

I just let most of them there junk calls go to my answering service and if I don't recognize the number, I don't ever return the call, but to be fair, I do check at least the area code and then can figure out if I know someone from that area, most times I don't so no return calls from me...-e-

Robo calls are an invasion of privacy! Your poem says it all, Ron! Oh, the things I say when it's a "real" person!! They'd make you blush, hon!! LOL!!! 'Love this!

Love ya!

I simply hang up at the sound of one of those telltale blips, or at "hello" if I don't recognize the voice. I can smell a rat!

An interesting problem that I am not that familiar. Where I live, I do have a phone of course, but no one seems to know the number since I get very few calls and just use the phone to send sms messages to the few people I may need to contact. I see there are benefits to not living in the US.

I hear ya! And its only going to get worse this next year. I've tried the federal do not call list and that has worked for "real" people calling but doesn't seem to have had any effect on robocalls. So I no longer answer numbers I don't know. I enjoyed this poem. It reflected my own frustration beautifully.

It's a headache for sure. Our provider offers a service where if someone wants to get a call through they have to push a certain number to get through. Robo calls can't do that, but a real person can. I know of one business that uses that system to eliminate robo calls. My wife wanted to sign up for that on our home phone, but it's something like $3.00 extra a month, and I don't feel like paying anymore. The bill is already high enough, so I just let the answering machine take it. I don't know if your local provider offers anything like that, but it might be worth checking into if your headaches get worse.
