After many hours perfecting the cover on my autobiography, my publisher told me that there were "faint gray boxes" on my artwork, unseen by me at high magnification, that would be "rejected by the printer." Frustrated, I am having a cover designer do the exact same cover to remove the imaginary boxes.

 Wit's End

Did you ever have one of those days,
weeks, months, or years,
when every thing you did turned sour,
resulting in your greatest fears?

Have you ever worked so hard it hurt,
straining your brain for a solution;
Only to find through all your trials,
that all your effort was a delusion?

Have you ever reached for the stars,
getting stuck halfway to Mars?
Your mighty rocket falling short,
trapped in a orbit, a jail without bars?

Well, friend, we've all been there.
When our best efforts aren't enough.
When we have to either give up,
or stick it out and really get tough.

Giving up will ease our mind,
lower our blood pressure a bit,
and a sense of peace we'll find,
with a gnawing sense of failure on it.

Getting tough may hit a brick wall,
the harder you try the greater you fall.
Or, you may just finally break through,
with a sense of satisfaction in it all.

If it weren't for your last wit,
you wouldn't have any wit at all.
It is better to have struggled,
then to have never taken a fall.

And so, my friend, give it your all,
you never know when you'll break through,
and you'll be able to stand very tall.

Fear and cunning expressively done here. Another probabilistic poem about last chances and life's requirements for failure and reward. Smart!

You are standing TALL in this piece with my own self reflections of hitting so many walls my head hurts, as I keep moving on.

Augh! I love it. This is my way. It is rare when I give up. I'll look for that brick that will let me through. Some things are such a struggle and sometimes I do give up for a while, but when I'm ready I bounce back as high as I can.
I'm sorry about your cover. Frustrating, isn't it? I hope it gets fixed without too much time or money.

I like this quote that many speakers and people have used, "It's not how many times you get knocked down; it's how many times you get back up." A quote that helps me not be at my "Wit's End."
Nelson Mandela used it too... what an example of staying the course! He changed history and showed us all that its not how many times we have fallen that matter, but how many times we get up and keep going..

Great write!

I read something today about Michael Jordan missing more than 9000 shots in his career, missing a game-winning shot 26 times and how the secret to his success was failing so many times. He said those things. Perseverance is the key to winning. Nobody ever got anywhere by giving up. Your poem "Wit's End" says that in a very encouraging way. This is a poem to be framed and kept in plain view by anyone hoping to reach excellence!

This is indeed an encouragement and an exhortation, dear Ron! I admire you for even trying to do these things yourself as I know from experience that even designers can get these things wrong! I admire you for even trying, so well done you! May you stand always deservedly tall and very, very proud. BTW, no feeble brain on my latest post - just an obscure picture maybe; someone had gathered all the tiny flints lying on the cliff top and arranged them into a heart with the word 'LOVE' beneath; QED. xx

I enjoyed reading "Wit's End." And thank you for the kind comments on the "Window" poems.

That is really good Ron. Apart from the sane message that our poem contains it has a rhyme scheme that hardly draws attention to itself and therefore adds to the soothing quality of the poem. Well done, this is some achievement.

Don't take this Jib Jab too seriously.
Ron was kind enough to send me a sneak peek of his memoir.
He has taken everything life has thrown and him and more...
and gotten back up off the floor every time. The writing is
probably his best. No punches pulled. It's brilliant!

Sorry to hear about the frustration dealing with anyone on the Internet, but yep, I have been there before. I have had book covers (two of them) rejected because they didn't meet the prescribed measurements although they did were exact from my end. So I took three steps back and punted and let someone else do it. Still, I am looking forward to the day the memoir is ready for sale.
