a poem written as my son struggled growing up and i couldn't make it better

“Once upon a time” You cried, I handed you your blankie, Placed a Band-Aid on your knee, Kissed your hurts away - you smiled “Once upon a time” Isn’t now Now, Your hurt and anger Cannot be eased Not with Blankie, a band-aid, or a hug There is no, “Once upon a time”.

Deep and painful write that I am sure hurt to express even in the brevity of poetry,as a father/ grandfather I could see how much this would hurt and I have experienced it myself in past. The only consolation is they ususally do outgrow their troubles eventually and we must just stand by them until then.'
