The idea just caught my fancy. Apologies to Simon and Garfunkel and the band by that name.

Red Rubber Ball

Bouncing, bouncing down the street,

chasing a red rubber ball,

is such a wonderful treat,

for children ages all.

To catch a dog's instinct eye,

its movement irresistibly game,

as it passes, bouncing by,

caught with effortless perfect aim.

Sometimes confined to a simple board,

with a rubber band or elastic cord.

To bounce out into the wild blue,

only to return the same path, too.

Who hasn't followed the bouncing ball?

When it landed on words' simple call.

For everyone to sing along the tune,

bouncing red ball's melody filled the room.

As a bouncing red ball enters space,

it moves out of sight without leaving a trace,

never to bounce back, ever again,

for gravity it needs, its where or when.

That's one toy I don't remember having, although I certainly have had many different balls and remember throwing them over our house to a brother on the other side. Thanks for the memories.

This took me back to my childhood. My mind was seeing that red rubber bounce through my memories. I enjoyed the read.

What a treat for a child-like soul! We should all remain, at heart, forever young.

There is something fascinating about a bouncing ball, especially a red one. The grandkids always loved to get balls of any size shape or color to play with. And it certainly caught your fancy. For some reason, this reminded me of the old music and lyrics with the bouncing ball falling on the appropriate word in the music.

I haven't played the rubber ball as you've described, the only rubber balls I've seen are pink or blue, and they're not for children. They're like a ball of round sponge for the cats to play. The cats l9ve them. They would carry them in their mouths and talk to them when they play.

Ahhh!!! Guess my response to this poem was off topic.

Pure fun!
I love it!
As youngsters we played ‘double ball’ here in UK…
Two balls simultaneously thrown at a wall and caught, with rhymes etc..
and some clever tricky moves too..kept us going and
having real fun all Summer long!

Very cute and very true... We've, at least I have followed a mystical red ball that went no place. Actually the very best doggie ball catcher that ever owned me was a Yorkie that did summersaults to catch a Frisbee.
