Every child’s kingdom is their life
Adults are guardians guarding their rights
To a full and trouble-free existence
Spared from the madness of war where life is insignificant
Every child needs the fullness of peace
To develop and grow with ease
Children are the future
It’s their rights we need to please
May they forgive those who are bringing them to their knees

So very true, after assisting to raise three daughters and experiencing the joys of having four grandchildren...it saddens me to know that children are still abused and mistreated in this so called modern age. Well written work Suzie....Fee
the truth of the poem is very obvious, but to condense that into a brief poem isn't easy. But here it is.
I hope millions of people read this one, because it communicates so skillfully and eloquently a belief we all need to nurture.
Dear Suzie. My name is Susana Busey I am a second grade teacher. I am looking for a writer like you who appreciates children their talents and gifts. i have a student in my class who has shown tremendous talent in writing and drawing in a very unique style. She is a little girl with autism. her grades are all A. She is a treasure overflowing with more treasures. She needs to be discover by a writer like you. I am not the only teacher who sees her future as a writer of children's books or an illustrator. unknowingly and according to this amazing child's mother her pre-k teacher, saw the same gift. We are in Texas a small little town 2 hours away from the National Big Bend park. Hopefully we can get in touch to talk more about this future writer. sincerely, Susana

so sad that children have and are treated as non entites and abused. But, they are the few in the west. One, however, is too much.

I couldn't agree more...but the world we live in has such mixed values...here in UK kids can't play 'double ball' in the playground, or 'conkers', or paddle in the sea on a school outing....for 'safety' reasons...all the good stuff we enjoyed as kids...yet social workers are missing obvious abuse leading to innocent kids dying in awful circumstances...and it keeps on happening...we urgently need to rethink our systems.....as for kids in war zones...I don't understand how so called sane human beings can think killing innocents can ever solve anything....it is horrific, whatever arguments either sides have....how to stop it is the problem...but I do know this...THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY....

While some societies and most families have valued and cherished their children, it was only at the end of the 19th century in the United States that child labor laws banished child labor. In the 20th century, parents were allowed to beat their children with impunity until outcry began to change that behavior. Schools and institutions followed.
Your poem is an example of the increased awareness of the plight of children in this century, greatly enhanced by the Internet, making your poem reach much farther and embrace the entire world. There will always be peril for some children, but for most, thanks to efforts like yours, growing up will be a wonderful experience.
On the other hand, I'm totally against totally sheltering children and being afraid of letting them get dirty or exploring, tools they need in order to become independent rather than totally dependent upon their parents for the rest of their lives.
Wonderful poem Suzie. Kids - ya gotta love them! Hey, we were kids once upon a time. Yes, I lived in fear of my father who would beat me with a belt. His verbal abuse hurt even more and even now I am alarmed when a word comes out of family or friends that my father used way back when. Amen!
