Just some thoughts about that which really matters

Poem Artwork

No antique chairs or ceramic bowls for me

Across the seas from a faraway land

Nor grand estates or spreads of land -

The dwellings of parents and grand folks of long ago

But, maternally, I have inherited a sense of rhythm

A life long love for my best friend, the horse

And stubbornness unequalled, (which time has helped me to tame)

Followed by a desire for knowledge, and the ability to learn

My father has imparted to me

A love of life and the desire

To search for what is right and good in the world

And that people, not things are what truly make life work

I am so very fortunate to have had these gifts imparted

By my folks along the bumpy paths we’ve traveled

My inheritance received while all are living, learning, loving

Pushing ever forward-imparting keys to better living

This one touched close to home, for although I do not have one thing in my home that belonged to or was bequeathed me by my parents, I too always felt they left me something far more valuable...love.

Wonderful memories...you must read my synergy and writing partner's poem "POP" in her poetry book "Songs of My Spirit" ISBN 1-4137-0858-7

You are richly blessed, Karen. Life's wisdom and an appreciation for life's simpler treasures are much more valuable than wealth and fame.

Thank you for sharing this poem and I hope others will learn from its perspective.

Then consider yourself rich! You have received from your parents what is most important. Money truly is a means to spread disaster when it comes to inheritance. It causes much more harm than good.I've seen it happen more times than I care to remember!

How fortunate you were to have such wise and loving parents and for you to heed their advice and counsel.

Karen, your voice awakened this reader to hear of an important inheritance you've received from your wonderful folks...they are more than any book could teach us...solid and as strong as the gusts on a stormy day. We, who've had great teachings, were very fortunate. I truly enjoyed every line in this poem...it is a great read.
