How does one let bygones be bygones?

How is it possible to let go of personal hurt and pride,

And put behind them the pain of personal hurt?

How does one release how important they think they are?

I don’t see this as such an issue

With casual friendships or superficial acquaintances

But when love has bound the spirits of the two

As in friendship, family or lovers, the connections and pain run deeper.

But… I think, perhaps, that

Truly the very love that made the emotional pain so deep

Is the same love that gives one the ability to just let go

Leaving all the personal baggage behind..

…To love, just love, letting bygones truly become bygones

A very emotional undertone in the voice of your words...
I feel the desperate yearning that eventually comes over the victim...those on either end of the relationship, whether it be man or animal, depending on the heart, the capacity for love is abounding, if we so desire to accept it!
"Bygones" now allows it...
Excellent write Karen~
Enjoyed!

Oh I wish that more could adopt this attitude, we all would be so much better off.
Though it hurts, it can't heal till we let go.

Your poem reflects something we've all suffered. Sometimes letting go is all that can be done. It hurts, but the pain will pass.

A nice work, the release of emotional pain and release so as to move forward is sometimes the hardest of loss through a relationship...

A wise write my friend, one that I am sure that we can all relate to. To let go of the past, is truly the only way to move forward with our future. Painful memories and hurt held within will eat one's spirit from the inside out...leaving behind an empty hull and usually a lonesome one. You've penned an exceptional write my friend! Wise indeed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

love is unselfish, says St. Paul. Waldron says 'we must love love away' below. How true and what a cute way to say it. cheers

I wish it were that easy. Forgiveness helps in the letting go - giving it and receiving it. But when you can't see to forgive yourself, it's hard to see past the pain.
