Spring is my favorite time of year for many reasons

Poem Artwork

My Spring

Fragrances of spring permeate the air,
New grass pushing through dampened earth,
The scent of newborn lilacs drift on the soft breeze,
And equine aroma fill all my senses.

The clean earthy musk of the horses smell like home,
They gather and crowd wanting to be front and center,
Shedding winter dirt and hair as I brush.
I lean close to their warmth and breathe deeply of life.

Satisfaction seeps into every pore of me,
With a cool breeze blowing in the soft warm sun
We ride on the sweet, soft carpet of grass,
His ears twitch forward and back, waiting for my cue.

The reins freshly oiled, are supple in my fingers,
And my knuckles are brown from his sweat and dirt.
His shedding hair now clings to my legs,
And at this moment, all is right in my world.
