Such A Silly Girl

On this first weekend in May in Louiville, Kentucky,

From the grandness of Churchill Downs,

My e-mail notifies me after each race;

The news of the winners, the upsets and more.

For one moment, I thought I might be there,

Oh such a silly girl!

But I’m not there to see their dappled bodies,

Or to see the rippling of their finely tunes muscles.

I can’t hear them blow as they prance past the stands,

In excitement on their way to the gates.

And I can’t smell their earthy musk,

As they begin to sweat in nervous anticipation.

But she is there, my sister so fair,

In her brand new hat (It is the Derby after all),

Having the time of her life.

Yes, she is there, evidence of the miracle of life,

For she beat the odds, overcame the percentages,

Leaving leukemia back in the dust.
