Holding Amy, then Billy, born 13 months after her, Cindy, the oldest, Carol, forever the Middle Child, and Susan, next to oldest I hoped to write something light today, but instead am recording one I wrote way back in 1968. I was a young wife, mother of 3 little girls and expecting our fourth child -- a girl! Back then, you didn't really know till the baby was born, but our thoughts were that of course, it would be another girl. After she was born, we named Amy Joy--Amy, so she would always know we loved her, and Joy, so she would understand that her birth brought us joy. Even before Amy Joy arrived, I felt so very blessed by God and that's the source of my thoughts in this poem--overwhelmed by His love and blessings.

TREASURES FROM GOD My God, You have given me such treasure! A loving Christian husband -- honest, true ; Our children -- eager to learn about You. My God, You have given me all these, And yet there's more! More for me You want to do! My love for You would thrive with none to share it. My joy would be as full were I alone. And yet You give such wealth! How can I bear it? Enough -- when for my sins You did atone! Even now a new life stirs within me, a joy so rich only a mother perceives! And then one day the babe its warm nest leaves. Even now You add unto my treasures! Oh, Lord, how love of You to my heart cleaves! My love for You would thrive with none to share it. My joy would be as full were I alone. And yet You give such wealth! How can I bear it? Enough -- when for my sins You did atone! Though pleasures cease and trials come to me, Lord, Your child I will ever remain. I know Your love abides through every pain! Though pleasures cease for all time left on earth, With You, Heaven's unending joy I'll gain! My love for You would thrive with none to share it. My joy would be as full were I alone. And yet You give such wealth! How can I bear it? Enough -- when for my sins You did atone! Through the years, when hard times came and it seemed that trouble and turmoil ran rampant through my life, this poem sometimes came to mind and as I questioned the love of God, it was one of the things He used to remind me and to help me re-affirm my love and trust for Him. Ohhh Connie, in case you don't know, I am a big bucket of water (crying-happy tears) and I am so happy for you. I never had a family of my own, but there is so much joy in knowing of real families such as the one I was fortunate to live in. I am joyful for your blessings.
