It may be a church; it may be a cherished place in a garden; it could be just a corner in your home where you can be alone; God tells us to go into our "closet" and pray. The key is to close out the world around us and meet with God.
I love this place
where I can feel Your nearness;
I need this place
where peace permeates the air.
For just one hallowed time of calm reprieve,
I can give my burdens to Your capable care.
When I am here,
Your love seems so abundant;
When I am here,
my heart's willing to believe;
But, when I leave,
I soon forget the lessons
You taught me here,
though I know it makes You grieve.
So, my dear Lord, I'm asking You for wisdom;
for faith and trust in living every day.
Let me not lose the sense of being with You,
and the knowledge that
You're with me all the way.
The older I get, the more difficult it is to concentrate on the goodness of our Heavenly Father. I don’t really know how to explain how I feel. There are times when I am alone with Him, promises are made that I will be more attentive to my duties as a Christian, then I go about the business of daily life, soon forgetting the promises I made perhaps only hours earlier. I am swallowed up with living in today’s world, sorrowful that life is nothing like it once was. Yesterday evening my wife and I went to the mall. At one point, I was by myself, and I passed through the children’s department at Macy’s. I looked at the many tiny outfits hanging on the racks and wondered what kind of life the children who would wear those little outfits would have. I wondered what kind of people they would grow up to be. These thoughts have been with me throughout the day, and my heart is heavy for these children and the kind of life that’s in store for them. Connie, I, too, love the place you talked about in your poem. It is such a comforting place—one where I need to go more often. Thank you for this beautiful, inspiring piece. I apologize with getting carried away with my thoughts.
