How can we know we aren’t being duped by “authorities”? How do we know the “authorities” haven’t been duped —- by themselves or others?

Poem Artwork

As about this world we navigate,
We order what we know.
Mental integrity, a valued trait,
Keeps us straight wherever we go.

Myth, at core, may hold a truth,
While proliferating in a radial vein.
Verity can fade, after its youth,
Until no realisms remain.

So we balance with critical thought,
By questioning implications:
I
f this is true , then what’s it bought,
And what are the bifurcations?

Are there facts laid out for view?
If not, then why wouldn’t they be?
Comport with things known true ?
Integrate smoothly in logic tree?

And what of the answers they try?
Are they straight, and certified?
Or on scattered obscurities rely?
Old text that can’t be verified?

Are there loose ends attached,
Subtle contradiction of conformation?
 In other ways mismatched,
Or denigrate sound information?

Are assurances anecdotal and loose?
As
sertions backed by hard proof?
Is it hearsay you’re asked to choose?
A linked chain of cultural spoof?

Questions should be discussed,
That get at truth of the matter,
Even if authority be nonplussed,
Or angered by insistent chatter.

Query, query. Query, you must,
Always due diligence do.
Independent sources you’ll trust,
But nothing is absolutely true .

Science, in this way, advances,
For no propositions are writ in stone,
And are deemed irrelevances,
When better ones them dethrone.

we must reason and rely on our own instincts and not accept the beliefs and convictions of others as written in stone ... a mind that is concerned with grasping the total picture, always questions its foundation ...

thought provoking and well written ...

Dear Leland,

When we learn to accept that we are evolving creatures, we gain the wisdom that there are no absolute truths. Unfortunately, so many feel more secure in clinging to those epitaphs written in stone.

Let us be free thinkers!

Love & Light always and in all ways,

I'm with Kimmy... the older I get, the more questions I ask, for the more I realize there are no absolute answers - least of all from the authorities, LOL! As an individual, I feel I have the inherent responsibility to "balance with critical thought" even my own thought while I'm alive... and "writ in stone", with no redemption, are... epitaphs - so, I'll wait till I'm under one of those to stop questioning... ;0) LOL! As always, sound advice, "writ" in a flexible, breathing, enticing, and totally enjoyable way, dearest friend!

The older I get it seems the more questions I ask!!! ???
I thought with age comes wisdom, but at the rate of intelligence I feel I've somehow fallen behind ???
"Questions" are forever instilled to be my norm, for if I rely on all that I know, I am afraid I might misunderstand my kids! HA!
Enjoyed this~
Love and Peace~

I couldn't agree more, Leland, and it seems that the more we ask questions these days, the angrier many of our so called leaders get. I wonder why!

"Questions"... THE THIRTEEN COLUMNS with fifty-two PILLARS (Some esoteric on THE SEVEN HILLS OF ROME?) ~ 13=4, 52=7 ~ 7+4=11 - some Revelation is blinking its light!

"Questions"... Fifty-two lines in thirteen strophes of true compliance to the highest Poetry's task, social-historic responsibilty, and The American Fine Letters, has chanted from the towers of JUSTICE in poetic magnificence.

Gratefully, in reverent admiration,

Thought-provoking! The longer we live, the more we realize how
much we don't know. Right? The Answers we once longed to discover have been replaced by The Questions. As in, what are the most
important questions we should be asking? Even simple questions lead to more. Called the Great Mystery of Life. Can be frustrating, but how boring it would be if All Became Clear. Thanks for reminding me why I love philosophy. Poets and poetry and. . .L I F E. 'Pea' <3

Our human genome is full of viruses similar to HIV-1. These have played an important role in human evolution and still play an important role in human embryology and day-to-day chemistry. Just how important are they to our evolution past and future?
