Russells is an introductory poem to my color picture story book (RUSSELLS IN THE LEAVES) for children and small dog lovers of all ages.

A walk in the woods, a romp in the dell,
Little Jack Russells, I’m under their spell.
Here a brown spot, there a white side,
Checkin’ all out, near and wide.

Short little tails shakin’ furious and fast,
Jerkin’ round to see what was passed.
‘Twas nothin’ so onward the quest.
No scent escapes the black nose test.

Dog circle rolls as the path I travel,
Across a critter trail they can’t unravel,
But never mind, they’re coming back,
Hoping the next is a hotter track.

Perhaps, but no bone in them is lazy,
These little guys go on like crazy,
And keep it up ‘til home we return,
Beggin’ for more with energy to burn!

But tomorrow’s yet another day,
With opportunities coming their way,
White streaks, joyous, not a care --
It’s the other critters that better beware!
