This past week the temperature has been ranging between, a freezing 32 degrees, upon awakening, to 78 degrees by afternoon. My plants start to bud out, but, by time morning hits, they're all frozen off!
Jack came through, frosting,
Winter in my dreams,
awakened to, in dawning,
wasting leaves, a glacial green.
Grass, iced, firm, Summer crunching,
under feet. . . Brusque air inhaled,
in cleansing, holding breaths, I hardly
breathed . . .Cool and crisp, raised up,
rising, up my sleeves. The goose bumps
make me shiver . . . makes my hairs, allude
to beeves! Yeah, Jack came through, iced,
the solstice of my zing! Retired to, that evening,
all my buds who thought it Spring! Leaves limped,
withering, freezing . . . Ole’ Jack, faded into night . . .
Plights afore the Fall, he bid, to hap, cool, and pad my pipes!
I KNOW Kimmy, what a sight on our newborn plantings huh!
The ice spectacles remind me of spider webs! BEAUTIFUL!
aS is this very imageric poem! I wanted to put on another sweater Brrrr... STAy WARM!
This poem is a treasured gem I will savor! :)

That Jack! He's a mean one...
A couple of years ago while we were living in Missouri we had a late cold spell. I think it was in May... It froze so hard that the leaves on all of the trees that were already budded out with full fledged leaves turned black and fell off. I had never seen anything like it... we weren't sure if the trees would pull through, but sure enough, within a few weeks of losing their blackened leaves the trees budded out again and spring came anew...

Kimmy,
Your imagery is always spectacular as is your poetry. I'm sure your green thumb will find a way to compensate for Ole' Jack. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.
I didn't dood it. :) Winter? What winter? Oh, we've had a few flurries, but most of the winter season has been warm. Yesterday was 75 degrees; today, at 10:56 a.m., it's 40 degrees and falling - with a nasty, cold rain. Hope Spring springs up your way - y'all need it!
Very nicely done, the image introduces the write so splendidly and the feelings you speak of although not warming up that much here in the day, I know all too well.

That's Florida for ya! In Orlando, its in the 40s bright and early, and then reaches almost 80 by noon! I just hope my newly planted strawberry patch will make it. The pineapple palm and fig tree seem to be doing very well!
Love your write!! An excellent description of your icy wonderland. Dreading the sunset, holding on through the evening, and much appreciative of the 10am sunlight -- This is the best of our Florida winter, so enjoy it! ;)
Kimmy,
The weather in Texas has been driving my arthritis crazy, too. We haven't been that brutally cold in the Houston area, but swings from the upper 40s to the 80s have been killing my allergies and my pleasant level of pain control! Spring and an end to the great temperature fluctuations cannot come too soon for me.
But I digress....
I don't miss trying to plant a garden in the Midwest, due to the same problem. Jack Frost is never kind. A nice, visual poem, Kimmy.
