Floating Flip-Flops

Slowly we sink...deeper and deeper, and, with the economy in such a way, as many witness, first-hand, the fall of too many hard-working Americans, as they struggle to save their homes, one must find some blissful analogy in order to quench ourselves an ability to survive and see to it, we will land again...

Poem Artwork

With cut off jeans and a pop-top, my long black hair, worn out mind, and flip-flops . . .
I kicked at the ocean tides . . . A little wave life rides.
Pulling back, was my nature, since now . . . and to break up patterns, under some other moon’s influences, would always set my sails in motion!
But, for now . . . I’ll let myself be sucked in . . . free to float, if I will.
No horizon in sight . . . no boat . . . alone, adrift in surrender.
My knowhow to swim all asunder. For somehow, I’ve just forgot! . . .and I can even say that if I want!
"The me, in me, has become the sea . . . and we meld!"
In bobbing waters, one mind, in a time . . . we fall into some blue, some green color, with sand dollars snailing along at the bottom. ( . . . land into money, and it will always collect further from the top!)              Sharks smelling blood, might, could, slice into us . . . yeah, where the moneylenders continuously feed off the reds!
Fishing, indebted us to an abundance the sea could have provided, yet, we cast our lines, oblivious to the initial hook or any pain our salty, parched lips,  wanted. . .
I feel like such a stupid idiot! Mine see should have a saw it!
Yet, here . . . fear, is nowhere to be found! I’m still aground in my liquid form!
Seaweeds below me, I ascertain, flower above, from beating suns . . . And, I notice how we become one when we give into any two extremes . . . it seems?
I am water. You are land! Where I landed, you were watered . . . You thirsted, I swam . . . you drank . . . I’m drained, just the same . . . and the mixture sunk us into mud, my footprints blurred away, and I got caught, dug into it . . .
Dammit, I just lost my flip-flops!

I wonder how long we can float?

"adrift in surrender."

The only way to sojourn.
Pretty piece.

Striking subject dealt here through this outstanding poemization on the reality of Housing Finance System. Its imagery is exoteric and at the same time mixed with surrealism and symbolism blinking its esoteric light.

"Floating Flip-Flops" ignited the dynamo of my economics, and made look at the doors of our society. (I leave the poetics for Masters of Creative Writing to comment and critique...)

a most enjoyable write Kimmy
I must admit I fear swimming in deep water
where I have no knowledge of what lurks below me
I've always fears being attacked by some sea creature
So I just enjoy walking along the sea shore bare footed
having the surf refresh my feet.
Love & Peace

A very deep write my friend, sending a message that many can relate with, especially in the trying days that we are living in. For many have become accustomed to a free lifestyle of spending, no worries, and little cares without putting away for that rainy day...we've been there and done that before and learned a hard valuable lesson. Even still times are difficult for all with the soaring prices of everything and many loosing their jobs and homes. Prayer daily, a big garden and much determination....we'll make it. Your ocean is much like my mountains...I allow them to sometimes take me away and allow my mind to rest for awhile. An excellent write with a wise message, creative with great imagery!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

So many buy more house than they need with loans that are too good to be true, don't save, but spend their futures with luxuries they can't afford. Who is to blame if their behavior leads to their own ruin?

I did not want to "think" this morning....tired of so much thinking these days with the USA in such an undercurrent financially... so when your poem came to me...I said..."Oh no"....then as I read it, the flip-flops kept popping in my mind as well.... sort of the flip side to reality... and I want you to know that the play with words is unique and well written... you made the point well. lindalaw

I love the way this poem...like the water just seems to ebb and flo in small wavelets, almost serene but with a slight undercurrent of danger just the same. Very nicely doen Kimmy.

Kimmy,

Yes, at times it gets so hard to keep ones head above water. Those who adapt shall prevail but they who succumb shall perish. It's a sad fact of life but so filled with truth. Should we all lose our flip-flops perhaps those with the means will buy us another pair. Excellent poem my friend. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

Kimmy, sometimes you get me with one of those sucker-punches coming from nowhere, surprising, dropping awe on my feet, by writing someting that simple yet that complex, mud, love and political rage all in one...like walking inside a small world that have it all.
Exellence is a poor word to describe floating flip-flops.

Kimmy,

We're all sinkin' fast, except the fatcatz ... lost my flips a looooong time ago. Barely keepin' head above: but the fact is, with the Grace of God, I a m. LOL You keep swimmin', too. Don't give up - we'll go down together, kickin' and screamin' the whole way! An excellent write many will identify with. Know I do. And how. :(

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
