The vertical center of my rose garden is dominated by a Wisconsin Weeping Willow, it's hangers gracefully reaching down to touch the earth. In the shadow of its lovely style is my favorite place to linger awhile.
Funny, isn't it? In its fifteen years of loving companionship, I never once thought of it crying. You've broadened my sensitivity, Kimmy. Thank you.
Willow is a favourite word of mine especially used adjectively in romantic or mystical settings, e.g. 'A wounded tiger on the willowy path...' (George Harrison, Breath Away From Heaven).
Almost a 'dust and ashes' feel to this haiku. 'Tearing leaves' as in a wailer tearing open his shirt; 'seize...' by angst(?), as the sufferer tries to touch the 'Earth' (capital 'e' to give it pronoun status?) symbolising re-connecting with life?
Each line has meaning as in all your writings that I read. Teaser for sure.
Regards
David
This poem seems to me to be as valuable as the painting is by Monet.
It is to be treasured surely for life, this Haiku, loved it and weeping willow is my favorite tree. Used to sit under it for hours when growing up at my home. Beautiful words about that tree, weeping for us.
Your ending brought a wry smile to my face, Kimmy.
Made me relive my youthful 'riding' of others willow trees. I'd damaged the tree with exuberance, will youthfulness, with love, actually. Every action of life deserves scrutiny, nice or not.
Early Works is an exhaustive compilation of the first decade of the poems and stories of Z.B.McClure. Included are family photos, rare personal photos, photos of 1st draft manuscripts of many of his early poems. Also some biography and memoir materia
