When I Go Out Walking
This is what I see when I go walking
On my two and a half mile stretch each day;
Cows, bulls, horses grazing, plants and trees
An array of wonderful sights along the way.
The straight road is sandy white like a beach
White dust infiltrates the air when cars go past
I cover my nose with a handkerchief and hold my breathe
And keep up my pace, walking fast.
I look for crawling snakes this time of year
For I’ve seen them cross the road a time or two
With trees and thick growth on both sides
It’s not uncommon to see an occasional few.
Some cars drive slow over the washboard bumps
Some drive like a fire truck heading to a fire
I’ve been told that the faster a vehicle goes on a bumpy road
The less you’ll feel the bump of the tires.
Yellow dandelions grow rich and plentiful
Alongside the white sandy road
They’re mixed with purple and orange blooms
Beauty from God on this earth He has bestowed.
There is plenty to see each beautiful morn
When I go out walking in the fresh, cool air
I thank God daily that I can walk far and fast
While I enjoy the fresh breezes through my hair,
And add years to my life with exercise.
