i read this quote today "What you see with your eyes is never as important, as what exists out of view."
~*~
Debby left that quote on one of my poems and it came to mind as I was writing this poem. Thanks Debby

~*~

I look in the mirror and what do I see
Age is surely creeping up on me
I also have a vision of a past image
Of myself before life did its damage

Leaving the mirror , thoughts came to me
Are we truly like what we look at and see
Not just our image, but what we partake of
For instance do we know when we see love

I thought of what we see just with our vision
It is  minute compared to what surrounds
Like the quote says, so much more abounds
A mirror is good mostly for self-interests

Yet we see family resemblances in the mirror
Giving us the impetus to know our interior
Study your eyes in a mirror, get an inner view
Startling enough to ask "is that really you"

Hopefully it will lead to changes for the better
To look away from ourselves to a world of need
Where matters of importance call for deeds
Joining with others so we can sow new seeds

Eileen, the outter person never reveals the true person living within a soul. Inner beauty is a treasure living within the heart of a person and its their property and no one can take it from them, but that treasure shines in each writing and each person you come in contact with. Reach out and give what's inside to another person and watch the seeds grow.

I've recently started looking in the mirror and I took a liking to what was looking back at me and I hope others see what I see, the inner love and smiles I have to share.
Wonderful write Eileen.

I've always heard that if you look in the mirror and don't like what you see, then others will get the same message. You must love yourself first before you can love others and help them. Exellent write!

What you see is what you get - not always;-) a universally valid prescription - we are all made as we are made - there's a special kind of light - expression becomes ingrained in the features - however - as long as the reflection remains an object to the ego, it fulfills only the ego's pride, but it will never provide joy and satisfaction that the "collective body" gives...

Sage

I know of which you write, dear Eileen...I know it well. I now hate looking in the mirror. Aging is never easy. Beautifully written so it expresses what is important.

When looking into a mirror we only see a shell, the beauty of the soul shines much to bright to be seen in a reflection. Great write....

Be safe,

A very intrigiuing write et~

"Leaving the mirror , thoughts came to me
Are we truly like what we look at and see
Not just our image, but what we partake of
For instance do we know when we see love..."
This stanz reminded me of a poem I wrote, "A Hobo in the Forest"
where I ask if the poor are really poor, or are they just images for us to see..."
Love the insight here...and that never ages! :)
Love and Peace~
Kimmy~

wonderful intraspective write-thought provoking as well-there is much that we see as well as what others see as they look at physical selves-there is so much here well done

Insightful write Eileen. Aging is a process made easier without a mirror ;)

I try to stay away from mirrors these day days

Magnificent Eileen, totally!
I try not to dwell on the images that those pesky glass reflections give off, huh, are they inaccurate or what. I think women wrestle so much with this because we are creatures of vanity, in the best sense ( mostly) lol, that just want to look our best. I can look at three different mirrors and get three totally different impressions!
Never mind the cleverly engineered ones in the SHOPPING MALLS eh!
Most importantly though, it is best, if we allow ourselves to be the person that the creator sees, as he looks upon the heart, not the external flesh!
then we can face the mirror in peace
Love n hugs
Ch'erie
