This is based on fact, from one of my true stories...
~~*~~
The sultry Georgia night had her bathing longer, she let an ice cube melt between her breasts with a shiver of delight
A southern beauty, only 15, still a virgin with peaches and cream skin, red hair and a strong will, sorely needed
She chose not to think of the man waiting in the bedroom, old as her grandfather ugly as a pit bull
Her mother had sold her to him for the night in order to keep home and hunger satisfied
The girl had been schooled by her sisters who had the same fate, when ready she walked into the bedroom like a queen, hazel eyes full of her dream lover
Praying that the ugliness of life, would never stain her mind, as long as she could dream
This poem had a story yet beautifully expressed in scripture. Young girls are bartered in situations such as this sadly. However, for a parent to give a child as such be a grief I would never in my lifetime wish to bare. For children are our treasures.

Reminds me of the song "Fancy" by Reba.....What dosnt kill us makes us stronger...(and that could be dangerous for men...!( its poetry guys lighten up! My 15 yr. old would probly kick his ass!)Keep a open mind if your offended you probly shouldnt read it. Thought I do agree it is Discusting and degrading!
Yes the slave trade sadly is alive and thriving...barely out of the cradle themselves, sold into abject misery, most are introduced to drugs, and become addicts, some commit suicide, many are murdered, and some, the lucky ones escape to a lifetime of scars and rehab.
In this world today, we need to treat our children as potential targets, for we do not know where and when these predators will strike, never let them outa your site.
Ty for sharing Eileen, as always, an inspiration.

Very well done. Makes me think of the old Bobbie Gentry song, "Fancy." How y'all are, Elieen. I'm back for a while. Need some time off from all that drama in the novels.

A very poignant piece indeed... squalor of life meets strong-willed, beautiful dreamer. The soul of this is, as others have said, wrenching, but in the darkness you wove around her, you also managed to create a heroine whose light can all teach us something. Nicely done.

One of the most deplorable acts of violence, as bad as murder for it kills the soul. Holly
Ha ... that picture, for some reason, reminds me of Faith Hill after she lost to Carrie Underwood.
Really though ... there is such a strong emotion in what you've done here; you could easily turn this into a short-story, or better yet ... a novella. This blessed me sugar chum.

I fear this deplorable sequence of events repeats itself far more than we might realize, perhaps colored by various subtle shades of justification and "need." all I know is it breaks my heart. may all who experience shattered dreams place those dreams back in the arms of a loving God, praying as the subject of your poem a prayer that will be honored I believe. it hurts to read but thanks for writing this, Eileen. peace and innocence to every heart, Dawn

OMG, OMG, OMG... I had an ex, who was forced to have sex with her mothers boyfriends and her father from age seven. She's a complete mess. I reported the mother, confronted a few blokes, chased her dad out of his country and uncovered much more for the police to act on...
Eileen,
While I have never personally seen this activity occur, I know it happens and such acts out of mixed up "necessity" do scar a soul for life. There was a girl I knew when I was younger who was not sold into this lifestyle, but chose it for herself; not via the streets, but by her own free will, in her nice cozy surburban bedroom. Her father was incarcerated; her mother didn't care and I think the girl was using her actions as a cry for help. The last I heard, she had married one of the men from her escapades and was trying to clean up her act. Still, the girl went from being a straight A student, at age 15, to a high school dropout in 6 months time for this? It's tragic, but so is the world today!
I have just written about Madam Butterfly myself, Eileen. This, of course, therefore rings those types of bells with me. It is funny how things are more shocking when they slip between cultures, so that the impact of the tragic realities actually hit home afresh. I am not sure whether this is fiction, based on fact or the usual artist's fict-fact, but it sure has made my heart weep. Fly, Little One, Fly. The body can be taken but never the soul as long as personal sovereignty and dignity of spirit can survive. Bless you, Kate xx
It is a shame but it has happened and unfortunately it has scared the young girls through the rest of their lives. Thank you for sharing Eileen.
