Today people may not think much of the words we jot down but to us they are going to be precious that one day will mean a lot to them as they read the words once writte from within our hearts.

Poem Artwork

Memories Don’t Let Them stray

I’ve held you carefully together,
for so many years in the past,
making sure  I’d never lose you,
making sure that you would last.

Reading between the lines,
Each and every single day,
Hold close in my memory,
Those things, that can’t go astray.

 You have aged so well,
Your colour has faded some,
Even with your wrinkles
You’re still my precious one.

I look at you each day,
With a love I cannot hide,
Holding you dear to my heart,
never letting one day slide.

I hope that others will accept you,
And know you are from the start,
For my words I’ve saved on paper,
Were written from within my heart.

I’ll tuck you safely in a folder,
Though you’re wrinkled with age.
Others will read you as my memories past,
Written on each and every faded page.

Our family writes something special everyday to each other -- then at the end of the week, we have our special set aside "family night" and share everything together. We have been doing this since my husband and I courted many years ago -- almost 26. We have many volumes of "Thoughts from the Heart". It has been a great tradition and now my oldest son is doing it with his family as my mother and father did with us. So its 3rd generation now.

Wonderfully enlightening! Writing enables us to pass memories--ours and our ancestors--on to the next generation. With my grandson being blind, I hope (someday) to record them for his sake. Unless we share what we've learned and know our future generation is bound to repeat OUR mistakes until man is no more!
My greatest fear is losing my mind, myself, before physical death comes. To not know oneself would be horrid; to not know one's loved ones ... unforgivable.
Write on ...

Can you imagine if everyone left writings behind for their descendents? That's communicating!

Rose, writings from the past can cause the memories to flow and words to mean much because they were our memories and such a part of us. This is inspiring and it allows the reader to see a side of you that might not have ever been exposed...beautiful!

Makes me wish I'd kept a journal or diary. Thankfully, I hold my memories in a special part of my heart. Yet, I'm glad I've begun to write poetry - it will be a legacy to my grandchildren, who will see a side of me that is truly who I am [I think].

God bless you. Kathy

Our words like our memories are as special to us as we intend them to be. Though some may not "get" what we say or are able to read between the lines...it does not mean that as you suggest someday when you or I are not on this earth anymore that then in a moment of hindsight the others will see and understand.

Great work cuz

Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
