It is a shame of what the world has caused us to do in life, so many of us have no choice but to turn away from a stranger in need, not everyone is on the street because they chose to be.

Poem Artwork

Along Life’s Way

Along my short travels in life,
I saw a man sit by the way,
So lonesome with a handsome face,
Just someone who had lost his way.

I went over just to chat with him,
I asked him if he’d like to sit with me,
He looked at me with tears in his eyes,
He said this is not how things ought to be.

I reached my hand out to offer him,
With a smile he soon stood his ground,
He said just give me a chance my friend,
I could turn my whole life around.

There were others there on the street,
Who felt the urge to just walk away,
But I helped a stranger, my friend,
Turn his life around that very day.

I could see deep into his heart,
I found the love he held within there,
For here was a son a father a brother,
A friend who deeply did care.

I saw past the ragged old clothes,
The face unshaven the hair was uncombed,
I followed all the love in his heart,
Soon he was no longer alone.

No longer a stranger on the road,
But a friend that has found his way,
For I mended his heart as I filled mine,
By offering a hand to a stranger that day.

Giving what we can [be it food, money, time, a job, etc] fills the heart and soul [of both] with untold bliss. And God said, "what so ever you do for the least of my brethren, you do for Me." A beautiful example and poem of sharing.

God bless you. Kathy

Thank God for you. Such a powerful and heartrending write. It's hard to trust a stranger not to take advantage of you. But you followed your own love and changed a life. Bravo. Excellent. Liz

The beauty in your heart and soul liberated his, Rose, and allowed his life to flourish. It is wonderful when love so fills you up that there is no concern about personal well-being... many of us women might have felt challenged and vulnerable in your shoes. You show us the way... and how. You're a gorgeous person, as your name testifies. TY for your concern and example. And this flowing write. Kate xx

I've heard it said that a little effort can do a world of good and there is no greater feeling in this world than helping someone in need.

Beautiful writing, Rose!

It is strange how most people automatcally "steer clear" of those who have the least aura of homelessness or trouble, especially when alone. But you overcame that mindset that day and at least put in wonderful verse the problem becoming so frequent - not easy in this material-mad rush world. You are one of few who can write mainstream poems that avoid all the cliches but say something needed & important.
Being a loner, sometimes misunderstood; I'm glad I clicked on this today.

I enjoyed this one. I have this odd thought of this, I find it hard to pass by an unfortunate of our society because I am often left wondering if that is/was God testing me? Just how I was brought up to always believe that God is everywhere and does often test us in the most unsuspecting ways. Nice write.

Simple as that...we extend our helping hands and when felt, they reach far beyond just that homeless man, or the lost or forsaken...we reach into a message sent from our hearts, through is everlasting promise, touching our very own soul with glory!
Loved this!

Beautiful write sis and I agree, too many just pass by instead of offering a hand, or a smile. Thankfully we were brought up by our mother to always extend a hand to those less fortunate.

Love you sis,

A touching write indeed...it is a shame that anyone has to live on the streets, but with the cruel blows that life sometimes deal us mixed with poor choices, and other circumstances I'm surprised there are not more. In our small community it isn't uncommon to see homeless people sitting by the on-ramp to the parkway or the exit ramp asking for food...not money...just food! I always feel better about myself if I make an effort to reach out and help those that are less fortunate, how much effort of money does it take to buy a chicken dinner and a coke, as well as a honey bun or candy bar? I posted a poem some time ago titled Entertaining Angel Unaware, I'm not sure if it is still posted at my den, if so I think you would enjoy it...well done, written from the heart with a wonderful message.
Blessings,
Joyce B.

I have said this very sentiments more than once dear Cuz, especially when it comes to street kids. I look at them and wonder what there stories are cause they all have stories and then I look at them and think how lucky my own kids were to have grown up without being where these people are. I give what I can when there hand is out and I have been told I am a fool for it will be used for drugs or booze but maybe...just maybe it might be that extra loonie or toonie the person needs to get on a bus back home...

Your compassion is seen clearly in this heartfelt poem. A smile goes a long way, an outstretched hand goes a lot farther.
I especially like your ending, "For I mended his heart as I filled mine, By offering a hand to a stranger that day."

Rose, I just wrote a story about this very thing: a teenager helping out the poor in her community. I wish I could do more for them myself, but not having any income, I can't. All I can do is pray for them, pray that they get the help they desperately (and rightfully) deserve. No, a lot of them did not ask to become homeless; it just happened in a cruel, unforgiving way. Very powerful and inspiring message of a call to help our brothers and sisters truly in need! BRAVA!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :)
