I have the pleasure of sharing with you one of the many talents of my sister Selena Dobbin-Gillis. Selena writes here on the den and loves to paint. This painting is one of many that stole my heart away and she gave me permission to write about it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Home with a View
From The Past
February 17,2010
By: Rose Marie Rideout
Looking through the back door
Of the place we once called home,
At the beauty of the lighthouse,
Now sitting baren and alone.
I can still feel the breeze,
From the shore straight ahead,
And hear the whispers of the waves,
As I slip to dreamland in my bed.
The clouds fill my bedroom ceiling,
As the blue sky cast my dream,
Just like the baren lighthouse,
As the light for ships shine a beam
A beautiful painted picture,
Cast a dream alive and true ,
A vivid picture of the past,
Another life that we once knew.
Then I awake from my dream,
Of the view from outside my home,
With a smile upon my memory,
Here in another time in life alone.
I really enjoy the flow of your poetry! Great job.

Rose, you and Selena make a good team. There is so much nostalgia in this poem, it pulls you in. The painting makes it even more real.
I especially love this verse, which makes me feel the lulling effects of the world outside the bedroom.

The pleasure is ours, Rose, thanks to you and your sister.
Your words enhance your sister's painting--a view I'd love to
wake up to every morning. -gene.
Paint shouldn't just hanging on walls, they should giving to observers a kind of dèjà vu from other places, with other people...

Whispers of the waves...what a perfect line to describe memories!
Sis this is so beautiful and yes it does bring back memories of home, your talent also amazes me everytime you write. Thank you much for the compliments on my oil painting, I really feel honoured that you used my art to go along with your precious poem. It was a piece I have wanted to work on for a long time. I love looking out my back door to see this every morning.
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
