Peaceful, Silence
August 13, 2009
Written by: Rose Marie Rideout

They are all gone, as I sit alone,
I stare at the walls that surround me,
Silence is all one can hear,
Through the echo of the quiet.

Am I lonely or relieved to sit here,
To sit and collect myself for one moment,
Peaceful and alone, yet I am not afraid,
I never liked the quietness before.

Maybe I am aging, not getting old, just aging,
Maybe this is the time we look forward to,
The years of peaceful, silent, quiet moments,
To sit and ponder back to our yesteryears.

The past two weeks I have once again,
Shared in the laughter of our five children,
Again we shared in photos and favourite meals,
Again I watched them one by one, leave home.

They are all gone, as I sit alone and again
I stare at the walls that surround me differently.
It’s ok that my babies have grown and found their lives,
It’s ok that we age and go onto enjoy our lives.

It’s ok for me to now enjoy the quietness,
To rest with the silence in the air,
It’s ok for me not to be afraid of tomorrow as
I ponder back to our yesteryear.

This is a fantastic and beautiful poem sis. I have always enjoyed the quietness and peace as you know. There is nothing more beautiful than our children, but the quietness is always close.
Love you sis,
Selena

You've captured famliy , thoghts and feelings in this nostaligic poem. Its great to have the family around. Its also kind of nice when they go back to their own homes. Ecah time one of my kids left , to go out on their own , I went through " "The Parting Syndorme" It was hard to have each leave, yet I knew it wa ssomething that must happen in their lives. Now its great when they come and spend time here. We are fortunate to have most of our children and their familes near by. A wonderful sharing Rose!....M

Exquisite moments that only after a life with many moments of worry and many moments of delight are created to be in the memory deeps to be recalled just when we get a simple smile.

Rose,
These are the words of a mature, confident, thoughtful woman who enjoys the excitement of visits and the presence of family and afterwards the calm and serenity of being by herself for a while. Fine write.

Isn't it funny that when we have a houseful, especially when they are overnight guests, we feel glad when they've gone as our peace returns...but that silence afterwards, can often be not so appealing. But it is good to be still and within our own thoughts, too. Glad your peaceful surroundings have returned to you, Rose. Hugs, Elizabeth

Dear Cuz,
This is one of your absolute best. I love that quiet feeling that I too experienced for the first time myself last week. It is okay to be alone for a while with our thoughts and our memories. To reflect on the past and to dream of tomorrow. You capture all of this well.

Lovely write, Rose. And yes it is okay to be alone in the quiet. I felt every word of your poem. I love it when the chicks come back to the nest for a visit, but I also love the peace and quiet that arrives when they depart.

Dear Rose,

To be able to savor being "alone" is a wonderful thing. So many confuse being lonely with being alone and there's such a huge difference. Great poem my friend,
Marcia
