Even though it is nice to make new friends, it is so warming to see familiar ones

Some Familiar Faces
January 15, 2011
 By Rose Marie Rideout

I look around and to my surprise,
There’s a few familiar faces in the crowd.
Some new ones quiet & all alone,
While others beckon so loud.
Friendly voices are heard,
With warm welcome smiles to share.
Those familiar faces in the crowd,
The ones who always seem to care.

I stand off by myself for a time,
Feeling strange eyes staring at me.
I feel as though I belong,
Yet there’s something not meant to be.
I catch up to the familiar faces,
I hold on to their smiles for fear,
That those strangers in the room,
I feel their cold harsh stare.

I look around the room, I know,
Though new friends are often dear,
There’s nothing to those familiar faces,
Knowing them nothing can compare.
I’m accepted for who I am,
For who I will always be,
To those old familiar faces I know,
I’ll always be part of a family.

Well Penned Rose
New Places with new faces
Are hard one to settle in comfortably
while friend beckon for your attention
I myself like old familiar friends....
At least I know where they are coming from
and where I belong.......

Those true friends are one in a million and if we are lucky to have just one, then we are very wealthy.

Excellent write and observation.

Yes cuz, to see the faces or hear the voices of old friends and family members is truly like finding an unopened Christmaspresent two weeks after Christmas we some how missed.

So true and you deliver such truths with a beautiful, heartfelt delicacy here, Rose... BTW, you SOOOOOOOOO have the right name for you! :)) An old friend is like a precious lump of your past showing up for a chin-wag; time spent with them often rejuvenates and also compounds our sense of identity, personhood and well-being. I like these thoughts very much. xx

I can identify totally with this, Rose,
our vulnerability at first and then our joy
when we see 'those old familiar faces' again,
the people who accept and love us
for who and what we are.

This is really lovely, Rose. If you're saying what I think you're saying, I so know the feeling of being within a crowd of those I know, yet feeling alone and as an outsider with nothing to say. Great words that really got me thinking.
