I Remember it Well,
We Were so Young
April 28, 2026
By Rose Marie Rideout

I remember it well, June 1975,
That special start in our lives.
My eyes lit up when I saw you,
In my mind, I had plans, I knew.
You so tall and handsome, sitting there,
Smiling as you sat on that kitchen chair.
I smiled back with lust in my mind,
Knowing that we'd be lovers in time.
I wonder what went through your head,
Where would your thoughts be led.
I knew one day, we'd be joined by our hearts,
Forever, nothing would tear us apart.
In April 1980, you joined the Military,

You wanted to support your family.
Times were tough while you were away,
But we made it through each and every day.
Yes , we married in April 1981,
After six long years we united as one.
We raised five kids through the years,
Most days were happy, some caused tears.
The kids grew up and moved on their own,
The house was empty, as I sat there all alone.
The day came when you decided to retire,
Your thirty-one years served, soon  expired.
We aren't as young, as we use to be,
Age is catching up on us, it's so plain to see.
We still see each other as the day we met,
After fifty-one years, without one regret.
Our love has grown more every day,

The love we have, has never gone astray.
We have some wrinkles and gray hair,
We're old, in love, so we really don't care.

Good for you. I married in December 1981, to a classmate from my high school, 20 years later. Unfortunately, she grew homesick and had other issues. It lasted only three years.

I've been with my partner now, 33 years. Time flies so fast.
