- the world at our feet? -

For many generations,
inquisitive eyes
restlessly scanned cellulose
for a quick fix
of certainty.

We are human, after all.

The heavy volumes
are still filled with an organized society
of well aligned, ant-like words.

Reassured is the hand
that closes chlorine white
containers of definitions.

These days,
one keeps track of reality
on screens brighter than the world,
on pages smoother than the truth.

And once eyes and hands have succeeded,
the brain should produce happiness;
with a little help from serotonine reuptake inhibitors,
of course.

To be informed and satisfied,
that is our duty,
what the cortex should help us be.

With a simple search-engine,
remember,
the world is at our feet.

So, with universal knowledge -
so simply at our disposal -
there is no need
to go out there and get a life.
