I open up
A book of memories
And read the poetry,
The words
That once poured
From my heart;
Then,
I am catapulted back
To happier years
By a photo
Falling from the pages.
As I look upon
Your handsome face,
Frozen
In one of those precious moments
Of laughter and affection
We once shared,
I touch the lips
That never quite
Met mine.
I hear
You are happier now
Than you ever were
With me,
And I am at once
Grateful and sad,
For my feelings for you
Have scarcely changed,
Except to morph
From raging passion
To lingering aches.
I realize
It is time
To move on,
So I gently replace the photo
And,
With a grimace of determination,
Cast it all
Into the blazing fires
Before me.
Very nice. Sounds like a good way to break with the past, old photographs and objects with memories attached can sometimes leave a soul stuck in the past.
