The sun has just
Risen
As I stand
Upon a once teeming
Dock
Looking out over
The bay
Oddly quiet
Of traffic.
It is still a time
Of peril
When no one
Is safe,
Yet I could not remain
Sequestered,
I have such joy
Bubbling up
I could not
Contain it,
I had to escape,
Just for a moment,
To give it room
To fully fill me.
In the midst of
This turbulent time,
When few things are
Certain,
When misery would claim
My every thought,
My one bright light
Is the time we spend
Together,
Though far apart,
Where we can see,
Where we can speak,
But we cannot touch,
Courtesy of
The modern internet.
I chafe with my need
To hold you,
Growing low with worry
And despair
As time creeps by
And I am unable
To do so,
But just this morning
Before leaving for
Your nursing work
On the frontline of
This pandemic,
You said those words
That have given me
Hope.
For the first time,
With tears in your eyes,
In your voice gone soft
And gentle,
You simply said
You loved me
And sent my heart
Aflight.
A search for the ghost of a chorus girl chorine haunting a costume designer’s Manhattan apartment leads to an encounter with an eccentric, mischievous witch with the ability to send folks back through time…in this case, the 1919 Ziegfeld Follies.
