Poem Artwork

It is
A night of mystery
When all are masked
And denizens,
Both real and ethereal,
Walk among us.
A full moon flirts
With wisps of clouds,
And owls hoo
From baring branches,
As costumed little ones roam
From home to home,
With pillow cases
And plastic pumpkins,
Demanding levies
Of sugar
In return for safety
From their trickery.
Meanwhile,
Throughout the night,
Screams and nervous laughter
Are heard from within
Makeshift haunted houses,
While errant spirits flit
Back and forth
Through the veil
Of life and death,
Until midnight comes
And all is quiet
Again.

A very apt, timely, and seasonally appropriate write, Rebecca. Thank you for sharing. Love, peace, and best wishes,

The pandemic sure adds a whole new dimension to the equation. I hope that adults, masquerading behind their pandemic shields do not go on a rampage of dirty tricks tonight because they can get away with it.

As I read I thought of the series of movies about The Purge a societal right wing engineering that backfires. Very scary.
