Poem Artwork

Sails calmed by the loss of understanding,
Hulls damaged by words meant to hurt,
Crew dulled by a route too well rehearsed,
Cargo burdened by accusations unfounded.

Yet from afar she is spied with eyes seeking,
Graceful, poised, and armed to make a difference,
Leading from the front on to discovery,
Searching for her destiny in uncharted waters.

Suddenly the wind propels this ship onward,
To destination unexpected and unplanned,
The port is warm, open, and receptive,
Though vowed to another’s flag.

This harbor shelters her from storms and harm,
To replenish and restore gifts never lost,
In others hands unappreciated and suspect,
In these waters now honored and loved.

So begins the newest and promising adventure,
Into lands and lives that thrive in her light,
The vast ocean carries captain and crew forward,
Uncertain of all that is felt and pondered.

Gale forces still rage on distant horizon,
For life grows in challenges unveiled,
Her self is buoyant with expectation,
His arms open wide in sharing welcome.

Thunder like drums beating skyward,
Rumble in his heart and mind and soul,
Forts protect this vessel so fair,
With batteries of cannon shot aimed true .

Banners unfurl, trumpets blare, swords drawn,
Whispered words of loyalty and support,
Understanding perceived yet always there,
Battles will not dislodge this alliance.

Sails billowing with winds renewed,
Hulls repaired with words of love and compassion,
Crew revived with maps of fresh new lands,
Cargo light with glorious visions of hope.

Journey forth on waves cresting with opportunity,
Feel the breath of friendship upon your back,
Know that there are no conditions to this,
For the soul sails on waters pure and devoted.

Captain, captain pay heed to my prayers,
That white canvas spread to catch the breeze,
Lead your gallant frigate to my shores,
Embrace my heart with smile so warm.

Wherever you go now gently christened,
On polished deck I stand beside your stance,
Lungs open to life’s blowing desires,
No greater bond shall thee find than we.

Close your eyes fair woman gem,
Picture the echo of night and freedom,
You are never alone when you remember,
The Master Seafarer provides the who.

Yet like the stars that direct your journey,
I remain fixed to guide the path you choose,
The sparkling reflection in my eyes comes from you,
My heart beats faster as you wade ashore.

Stay, if you need and want and desire,
Go, when the pull of what lays out there calls,
Return, when your nourishment I might provide,
Faith, believe in this harbor safe from ill.

High seas brought you to listen and read,
High seas gave your heart a chance to share,
High seas swept us along the surf of life,
High seas swirl a storm of feelings all around.

Spyglass lifted to eyes bright with confidence,
Plans of conquest and challenges tumble forth,
Dynamic leader with feline power to captivate,
Let me be a part of your essence and light.

From distant lands you came,
On high seas.

Nice job. As for "about the journey, not the destination", it's a paraphrase of the ending of my poem, "In Search of a Chalice And a Pentacle."

This is beautiful and just yesterday I heard this saying 'It's about the journey, not the destination' Hmmm, I don't remember where I heard it but I did. :) JC

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
