Riding That Train Of Thought

A Word Fling

it’s on nights like this
when it’s too hot to sleep
in a cold bed

i think of all the adjectives
that described the noun of us
and spelled our demise

words like, intense, magnificent,
rare, consuming, priceless, perfect

and other words i’d prefer to forget
like cowardly, apathetic
indecisive, entraped

if i close my eyes and mind
i can smell sandalwood and sweat

there are no adverbs to describe
the movement of your verb
encased within my parenthesis

i can ride that train of thought
through each junction of pleasure
to the exclamation point of ecstasy

but then, i was just your word fling
and you...you were only a poetic dream
