My Heart And Invitation Are Open....

Poem Artwork

Open Doors And Invitations
By La Belle Rouge

it matters not to me
the state of your pockets or face
wealth and beauty reside in the soul

that opulent palace
where those who love and give
are welcome, with shoes on or off

But I am not fool enough to go
where angels fear to tread

or strong enough to force open
the rusted latch of your heart

I will not make you squirm
with unwanted queries or assumptions

or expect you to wish to know me
the way I want to know you

I can’t afford to have expectations
or be offended at locked doors

having no right to enter those doors
unless they swing open to invite me in

my door and invitation are open ones
should you ever feel the freedom to visit

the table is set, with kiln fired plates
holding tenderized choice cuts of my heart

if you’re ever hungry for honest conversation
walk through my open door without fear
and make yourself at home

you can bring the wine, if you like
and maybe a single rose.... to make me smile

we can share only a small cup of revelation
or a whole bottle of your vintage truth

Nicky's nailed it for me... Yes, your "big heart, old soul" poem has stuck with many of us, I'm sure, Belle... and here's why. You write life in ways of a seasoned maturity of emotion that some of us can only aspire to. No heart is more faithful to the tenets of love than yours. Integrity in every word. Love this... and you. Good thing, my pockets have holes in, as for doors I think mine must be rotating. But for me to look good it takes a case of wine, and that's just the aperitif....

beautiful - and 'yum'! 'Whole bottle of your vintage truth' is where it's at - i keep remembering the lines from a poem of yours from a while back - some hearts are big, some souls are old poem - re loving just one at a time - see, when there is a vintage one adores, it seems all unnecessary/wrong to drink anything else - one bottled vintage at a time anyway - this poem is gorgeous and i dont think even a rusty heart could resist this warm invitation - a great La Belle poem
'if you're ever hungry for honest conversation
walk through my open door without fear
and make yourself at home'

What a vintage invitation!! Leave your hangups outside the door while visiting La Belle, stud, she hasn't time for your pecularities . . . Present her with that rose . . . Hold her hand . . . Listen to her speak . . . Meld . . .
