Rose And Thorn
By La Belle Rouge

displayed upon the shelf of your heart
a single rose placed in ornate vase
red like the sunset across the lake
tender as words of a whispered prayer
held transparent in fragile crystal
she has nothing to veil from your eyes
her perfume permeates the breeze
gently caressing your upturned face
stirring the ashes of a forgotten fire
smoldering in the depths of your soul
your fingers tremble to touch her
and press her soft petals to your lips

she sings the songs of the fallen
in battles, in mindless confrontations
with the minions of deepest despair
in the darkness her soft voice guides
the weary feet of the blinded warrior
and whispers of other times and places
of an infinite embrace and eternal kiss
her quiet beauty graces your thoughts
her pungent passion haunts your dreams
she weeps to think you may never taste
the incomparable sweetness of a rose
if you fear the prick of her thorn

So spiritually moving like a morning breeze. I could visualize a soldier, any soldier sitting while deep in thought. Yet the horros of war confronting him. Beautifully written...

Be always safe,

this sure is a "genius" of an idea: and you wrote out the idea to pretty perfection. Almost makes me wish I'd used the imagery, but then I'm no expert in this genre.
This one will sell, classic title! You're on red roses, while I'm on "black rain" this morning...

There's not a thorn that could make my soul afraid, only if its rose withers because tears don't reach so far away to quench her thirst.
