For You, My Lovely Kitty

Old Girls Like Us
By La Belle Rouge

You’ve owned me so long
I scarcely remember the time
you didn’t regally drape
the foot of my four poster
or the padded arm of my chair
I can’t imagine writing poetry
at my desk without your
golden eyes being the first
to leisurely critique my efforts

No brown or russet to mar
the silver of your coat graced
with stylish black stripes
Forming a distinctive swirl
on your sides and a necklace
around your elegant neck
Your eyes made up with kohl
like an ancient Egyptian goddess

Old girls, like us, old friends
we understand each other
Now you seek out my lap
more and more where you nap
or sit purring as I stroke you
and I want to forever feel
the softness of your thick fur
against my adoring fingertips

They say you are dying
and no miracle of medicine
will prolong our time together
You walk slowly, jump less
I feel less substance now
when lifting your frail body
In my heart I am begging you
“Don’t go Old Girl, please stay”

You are tired, like me, I know
but you still purr so loudly
I can’t sleep when you are
curled up next to me in bed
and I cannot say good bye
I smile with the thought
old girls like us never die
We fade into a new existence
changed, but goddesses still

Hi Belle, I am a friend of Donna's and Rays. Ray sent this to me because he knew I would exactly know what you are going through. I lost my darling Tinker the day before Thanksgiving this year. So much of your write reminded me of thoughts of my own as I watched my friend leave me. This brought me to tears. I am so sorry! I wish there was something I could do to ease the pain.

Belle how I wish I could find
the words to ease the pain I
know your heart feels. But from
personal experience I know there
are no words... I lost my precious
Rusty almost 6 years ago now and
the empty spot in my heart is still
there and always will be.

You deeply touched my heart with
this awesome piece of your heart.

Extra big hugs for you and your dear
precious friend.

Love
Donna

Oh, La Belle. Tit for tat. Your "Old Girls Like Us" brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful and feeling are your words of true love for the old friend that has sat at your side, sat on the arm of your chair, lain at the foot of your bed. I know your feelings too well for each of my K-9 friends have been just that, dear friends and I still mourn and cry for those that, through the years, I had to make the heart breaking decision... I so know how you feel. Unfortunately there are no words that will ease your sorrow when the time comes.
Your friend, Mark

LaBelle,
There's perfection in this grief, so exquisitely expressed and felt, and it forces me in the nicest possible way to remember my most recent loss, as if I could forget, in April...after thirteen great years.
Thank you, LaBelle, for this, thank you.

John

OH Belle, This poem is so sad!
I know these feelings, with my 2 Adorable cats had to pass on, to the Kitty place in the sky! Tears well up in my eyes...
My heart goes out to you and your dear sweet old girl!
You wrote this poem and dedication so sweetly tho'!
Wrapping my arms around the both of ya'!
Age creeps up so quickly....

This tugs at the heartstrings for it is sad to face a friends demise especially as we all age ourselves and know our own time is fleeting. Yet to know that you have shared such a long loving existance is also comfort in itself.

Kaiser was nineteen years old or 133 dogs years, no wonder he felt old, no wonder he felt sad and guilty for leaving me alone. But we are going to be together again, don't we? If not, nothing was worth believing.

Ah, La Belle, I had to put my old dog Nipper down two months to the day Dottie died. It went bad. He was hurt. I was screaming at the vet. Then I lost it. Everything just came down on me. Dottie passing. My first wife of whom we had a very nice relationship and the mother of my first born died two weeks later screaming because the pain medicine wouldn't work anymore. She had brain cancer. Then The Nipperdawg. It was rough.

La Belle,

I cried all the way through this. I lost my precious cat of sixteen years two months ago, and last year I lost his brother. They're both gone now, but the good times we had will never be forgotten. Absolutely beautiful poem and tribute.

Hugs,
Mary
