A knock at The Lady’s door, a maid bid enter
two knights who carried the wounded laird.
His wounds ran red, beard frosted with winter.
His agonized eyes found the Lady and stared
then he spoke with great effort, “So ‘tis time
to give the realm a royal heir and only son
I am dying, My Wife, our son is next in line
let my eyes behold him and then life is done”
Her pains ran wild like a carriage uncontrolled.
One more of magnitude and she fell into a faint
with one last prayer to God for her wayward soul
for she knew for certain she had been no saint.
Time for the child to be born had finally come
he entered the world, a handsome, healthy son.
The Laird raised his head and asked “A son?”
as the maid laid the tiny, crying boy in his arms
“Yes,” he said with relief, “Yes, you are the One,
to reign in my stead, protect the realm from harm.
The Laird delighted in birth of his firstborn son
for the child had skin lily white, eyes lapis blue.
He could die now in peace his days were done.
He stroked the blond curls and he never knew;
he died moments before the caramel one came
with glossy hair and bright eyes midnight black.
He would later be given a mystic Moorish name
as from her faint his mother soon came back.
Both her sons she would dote on, always adore
but thanked Heaven for having a part of her Moor
Belle, others have already given you the praise you so rightfully deserve for this poem. I can only add that you have taken a familiar plot, theme and enriched it with verbiage and unique twists that are the envy of me. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

"The Gold Locket " is your Crown, Belle. I had this part figured wrong. I had assumed the Moor would be the one at the door. My friend, you are really, in my opinion, writing the best poetry that I have read of yours, or most anyone else's, and that is saying something.
Still, I say it. It's as if you have been transported back to the Bards era, and, in fact, have appealed to him to let you use his quill. He agreed and smiles as he reads your words from his quill.
